Re: The Artist
The Cardiff Odeon was mostly full on a dreadful night where you could here the pounding of the rain above the music score. I did enjoy the film and most if not all the audience did too, laughing and sighing in places. This is the type of films where the first one will be successful but do not repeat. That way lies tears. I loved the nightmare scene and Uggy was brilliant
OH did fall asleep - again, for a while, and did not enjoy it as much as myself. It did however, bring back memories of saturday morning pictures, with old black and white films, Roy Rodgers and Trigger, The lone Ranger, The Deadend Kids, ....... oooh and the sci fi ones with barely disguised wires and dodgy accessories. Maybe that's why I liked this film, as I had already seen the originals.
I think I remember listening to a programme about silent films where they talked about the influx of continental and eastern european actors into the film studios in early days of films but when the 'talkie' came along their accents made them redundant.
9/10 for being unique in2011

Re: The Artist
I liked this. I thought it was sweet and charming. The two leads give excellent performances, exuding appeal and charisma with minimal dialogue. Nice touches of humour throughout and the score seemed perfectly matched in tone to each of the scenes.
This is a gem of a movie, and I did enjoy it but I wasn't blown away. It was a refreshing change from most of the films released these days but still felt something was missing. Perhaps my expectations were too high after all the hype. 7/10.

Well, that was rubbish.
I liked the bits with dancing, but that's about it.
The dog was more the dog from Beginners than Snowy, shouldn't have won the Palm Dog at all.

Daughter and I enjoyed this. We also found it charming and silently witty.

Re: The Artist
It was refreshing to see Jean Dujardin in this kind of role, not the 'popular comic guy' as he's used to playing.
I was more 'into it' during the second half, after the rise, during the fall! Both leading actors were good, and John Goodman... ah! Roseanne! My youth! It was charming, somehow Dujardin's breakdown scenes were powerful, and of course, I really enjoyed the end :)
ps:
a love story without a kiss? well done!
Yet, it was not as good as I expected. I found it a bit too long - sometimes I started thinking of something else before waking up from my dreams and keep my eyes on the screen... Or is it just because I have a concentration problem.
8.5/10 (I keep giving this note...)
