We had a trailer for a Woodstock film and that weird Tellten ad. Was quite funny actually I thought. Not in a league with the Orange ads though.

The Cineworld Bradford was less than 50% full, and showed the tellten ad. Based on its instructions, I'm not sure how many I will tell.

As a big RDJr fan, I was interested to see him play a more complex role, and I also have loved Jamie Foxx in many roles (especially Ray). But... this film felt a bit flat, one dimensional, and so did not hook me in fully. Even the flashbacks to his past did not have depth.

RDJr was wonderful of course - indeed, he got better as the film went on. (What was all the toilet humour about?????)

Maybe my expectations were too high. Thanks to Norms for the tickets!

I forgot, we did get the "Taking Woodstock" trailer, but I had seen it before, which may be why it didn't register. That or the subject matter!

I went to see this at Cineworld Didsbury last night, the cinema was probably about 80/90% full. I really enjoyed it and found it incredibly moving especially towards the end. I found myself crying and I couldn't put my finger on why. After we had got home and discussed it I think it was because of the general hopelessness of some of the cases at Lamp? I thought Jamie Foxx put in an excellent performance - in my opinion better then in Ray (though this may be clouded by the fact I didn't like the character Ray at all!). And I though Robert Downey Jnr was very convincing as a normal guy thinking he can 'fix' a homeless person. Overall I thought it was excellent film! 8.5-9/10!

Just had an email from SFF;

We dont often ask you to p*y for tickets, but for all of us enjoying London, we feel Shelter is a very relevant Charity.

They are holding a preview of the superb Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jnr, which tells the story of a highly talented homeless musician. It is on general release from Friday 25 September, but the screening offers an exclusive chance to view it on Tuesday 22 September, from 6pm, at Cineworld, Haymarket, London.

Tickets are £10.20 each.

I also saw this last night at Cineworld, Glasgow. The cinema was fairly busy.
The missus and I both really enjoyed the film, only one bit seemed to drag a wee bit and, other than the odd leg numbness, the 2 hours went by quickly. I also hadn't known prior that it was based on a true story.

Scores a good 8 out of 10 from both of us, and it was nice to see something a little different o/

The Telegraph has been promoting it, but it's still not selling I guess. Worrying considering it's a preview with the director and Q&A, also the ticket price is standard West End cinema ticket prices. It doesn't bode well for the film's release....The film didn't do very well in the States.

I did think they might be shooting themselves in the foot slightly, partly by offering a 3rd preview (and a pa*d one), after 2 free ones and so close to the release date. But also perhaps by focussing on Telegraph readers, who tend to be older and possibly less inclined to go to previews anyway, let alone to p*y and go to London. I did wonder why the audience was so much older at my preview and whether this was for the same reason - did anyone else notice this marked difference? (But better-behaved - few latecomers, chompers and texters!)

Ms Thrifty shares:
It's quite a long film but rewards patience. I know some of the facts were changed but I suppose there were limits to the liberties which could be taken as both the main characters are real people; this might explain the ending, refreshingly muted by Hollywood standards.

Saw this at wandsworth the other night thanks to tellten and was pleasantly suprised. I thought going into it that it would have limited appeal and that I wouldn't really like it but I ended up really enjoying it. Quite deep and if you're not in the right mood I can see why you might think it drags and gets a bit boring.
