dull failure of a film, made worse by the fact that i pa*d to see it. yeah, i know...

not a tear shed, despite heavy handed use of swelling music.

(i'm not unemotional, wept like a baby in les miserables, just last week)

& in a world where reddit/gore exists, a cut leg ain't shocking.

A very hard-hitting and emotional film.

From the moment i saw this film advertised i wanted to see it, as i do love a good disaster movie!
I was gripped from start to finish - One of the best films i have seen for a long long time!

I would have liked to seen a short video or more pictures about the actual family it was based on at the end, unless i missed it ?

The Impossible is a huge emotional and technical accomplishment. It manages to tell the small story of one family in a huge disaster and sensitively portray both the intimate and the epic of the tragedy. Though the focus is on a foreign family, half-drowned and lucky to be alive, it is the local people who surface as the heroes. The performances are amazing, aided in no small part by the incredible production design and terrifyingly real special effects.

The Impossible is a very powerful film, incredibly moving and emotionally devastating. Along with United 93, it is one of the most realistic depictions of a real life tragedy you will ever see. It is impossible to remain unaffected by the plight of the people in the story and by the credits it is impossible to move from your seat. Hopefully some of the profits will be put to good use in the places affected by the disaster. The Impossible is easily an early contender for my top 10 of 2013.

Excellent review and basically sums up exactly how I felt when I saw this.
Good to see that audiences are also embracing what can only be called a truly emotional rollercoaster of a film. Also hits home exactly what those affected went through.

Highly recommended.

Saw this with my mum today, and though I pa*d for her, I used a voucher for me so it was a free screening for me!

most of the scenes, though lacking much dialogue, convey a different major aspect of the disaster succinctly through no small hand of the actors themselves. You go into the movie thinking how inappropriate it is to have millionaire hollywood level actors in films like this, and you go home realising that in a God-like disaster of this magnitude there is no differentiation between rich and poor, what categorises people are those who respond correctly in the face of such adversity and those who do not, and even then you arent even close to guranteed the result you hope for.

Quite impressed that much of it wasnt CGI. The most disturbing scene was one of the near drowning scenes, the way the victims body was literally tossed around like an insane rag doll by sheer manic turbulence.

On a personal level, it made me feel guilty I hadnt contributed more to the charity support for this event, yet I was quite happy to shell out hundreds of pounds on meaningless A level courses that year. We need to prioritise correctly as human beings even if events like this are tangential to our lives.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

Don't beat yourself up. I had problems trying to get the local churches involved. And if churches can't be bothered to get involved with charity work and fundraising . . . . there isn't much hope for the rest of us.
