Re: Latecomers to screenings.
Cinema food is ridiculously expensive, I never b*y any drinks or popcorn but I had to b*y a hotdog once or twice in an emergency (forgot to bring a sandwich, starving and it was the only food around for miles), and a regular hotdog sets you back about 4 quid!

I don't like latecomers who want the seats next to you and don't even ask you to move and just barge past!

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
The only thing I hate about screenings, whether they are free or not, is when the cinema itself is relatively full (80/90% of seats full) and you get a couple who want a whole row to move down because they are so self-conscious that they HAVE to sit together and can't sit 6/7 seats a part. And the worst thing? If people refuse to move and simply tell them to just sit down, shut up and enjoy the cinematic entertainment, they will usually get the Cinema ushers/staff to come in and start moving everybody down nice and loudly. People like that should be shot, or refused admission, either way I don't care as long as they are not in my screening...tilly wrote:I don't like latecomers who want the seats next to you and don't even ask you to move and just barge past!
Also on the issue of 'cinema food', the reason it is really expensive is down to the fact that it is usually one of the cinema's main source of profit due to the fact that they make very little off the actual sale of cinema tickets (something like 10% of the original ticket price - rest goes to distributor, etc). And to counter-act this, I usually set off ten minutes earlier and visit a Fuel Garage/Supermarket on my way to the cinema. Saves me £2/3 everytime which really adds up when your at the cinema 4/5 times a week.

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
I was actually stopped at the screening of 'The Wolfman' at the Cineworld Shaftesbury Ave a few weeks back and told I couldn't bring the coffee I'd b*ght at Starbucks into the cinema. Apparently you can't bring outside food and drink in. Mcdonalds I can understand but coffee?!? I ended up smuggling it in anyway. The fact that there seemed to be no staff selling food and drink inside the cinema (due to it being a late screening) made it even more absurd.JordanFRAV wrote:And to counter-act this, I usually set off ten minutes earlier and visit a Fuel Garage/Supermarket on my way to the cinema. Re: Latecomers to screenings.
I tried to b*y a coffee at the Apollo, Piccadilly Circus last week. Their expresso machine was out of order and the assistant said they had instant coffee i but "you wouldn't want to p*y £2 for that". She told me that I ought to go next door to Costa Coffee instead!kevinknapman wrote:I was actually stopped at the screening of 'The Wolfman' at the Cineworld Shaftesbury Ave a few weeks back and told I couldn't bring the coffee I'd b*ght at Starbucks into the cinema. Re: Latecomers to screenings.
I have eaten sarnies in front of cinema ushers so I guess I have been lucky, and we always bring our own drinks. Though I try not to wave them about too much until I am sat down. And I try to eat all my food up before the film starts as there is nothing more annoying than people rustling food wrappers. Actually, scrap that. Almost everything people do in a cinema annoys me these days. I probably annoy myself sometimes, LOL.

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
Went to see Che Part One and Two at a Picturehouse cinema. In the first film a couple sat next to me with a huge portion of popcorn, giant bag of sweets and a mega sized drink. It took them about half of the film to polish it all off. We then have a break before the second film begins, I'm feeling positive and relieved that they'll be no noisy food disturbances for the next film. The couple then turn up late with fried chicken, baked potatoes and more enormous drinks! I couldn't believe it!!
After the monster food extravaganza one of them developed a cough, (I thought it may be a chicken bone - but luck wasn't on my side that day!) They then spent several minutes searching and rustling to find another sweet to slurp on.
I truly wish food, especially anything that stinks should be BANNED from the cinema!!

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
LOL Beate. I know what you mean. I get everything out of the way before film starts, that's why I hate it if we are kept waiting and the doors open at the last minute, so I have to scoff everything down really quickly!
I hate noisy people at the cinema, so make sure that I am not one! I don't know about you, I can't enjoying watching a film and eat at the same time.

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
I sometimes bring sandwiches to the cinema, but I don't think eating sandwiches makes much noise, so I guess I'm off the hook.
What really annoys me is when people feel the urge to share their thoughts about the movie in a loud voice with the whole crowd. I felt like strangulating the wise guy who was sitting next to me during the Proposal. He kept making stupid comments during the entire movie.

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
ucakpam - no problem with sandwiches unless they are really smelly (e.g. egg, tuna, etc.) or that you get them out of tin foil or something noisy. Once some people behind us ate egg sandwiches and cheese and onion crisps, and were passing them along behind us asking each other if they wanted them....
I think now I would say something, but then I just got really annoyed.
I hate people who give running commentaries too, especially when they have seen the film, and they say things like "he did it...". Why do the people they are with put up with this?
Is this turning in to the rant thread?
