Song for Marion
Re: Song For Marion
Saw it tonight at Norwich... I will be frank.. I didn't like it much... It was not bad, but not great too...

Re: Song For Marion
Watched this in a packed Southampton Odeon. I enjoyed the acting overall but thought Chris Ecclestone was underused in his role. This had shades of Amour but nothing graphic or remotely disturbing (thank the film gods) though I was annoyed at the breaking bad news section. Not cool. Worth a watch but better if it's free. 6/10

Re: Song For Marion
Saw this at Braehead. Sadly only about 75% full though much bigger venue than the usual Virgin screening at The Quay which sometimes only has 58 seats. Sat in back row with deb1 + OH though did see Yinster, teddybear1, ploggit and William.
Film was probably just the right length at 93 mins. Vanessa Redgrave (Marion) & Terence Stamp (Arthur) were wonderful in their portrayal of a couple facing a terminal prognosis. This film was more emotional than either Quartet or Marigold Hotel though not as good as either.
One particular lady in the audience cried (loudly at times) which I found difficult though the person with her didn't react to her distress at all
Overall, the film is not anything to "write home about" but will definitely attract a middle age (rather than younger) audience.
Marks 6.5/10

Re: Song For Marion
I don't think age comes into it tbh, more your own life experiences.
I do think Redgrave is very brave to allow herself to be seen without makeup and looking old. her lack of vanity is admirable.
Terence Stamp was wonderful but I did want to punch him at one point.
Telling Marion that he would take care of their son, only to tell him after her death, not to contact him any more.
Re: Song For Marion
Our tickets said 6pm for 6.30pm start but the screening started just after 6pm. Therefore there were numerous people filing in during the film, some of whom continued chatting loudly as they walked along.
The film was quite moving without being overly sentimental. Although I had tears streaming down my cheeks for a few scenes, there were times when I caught myself smiling or giggling.
It was better than I'd expected, given the subject matter.
