Saw this a 75% full Paisley Showcase this morning. I even dodged the church to go . . . and I'm very glad I did as I really enjoyed it!
(:p Don't worry, I went to church at a different time!)
I thought the film was very entertaining though I did notice a few very young children in Paisley and, although they were quiet and settled (or shocked! 8O ), I do agree that the film is probably more appropriate for age 8+.
3D is totally wasted on me as I can't see it but notice how many folk are saying that 3D is often not a good addition to the film though it would cost more if p*ying! Seems like more of a money making spin than anything else! :nono:
I would happily have pa*d to see this film and wouldn't even mind seeing it again!

went to watch this at Manchester showcase, and thought it was a good film, although my viewing was spoilt by an unsettled 3 year old in the front row, so much so that I ended up walking out 15 minutes before the end......that's the last time I take her to watch a film with giants in.
I know I was taking a chance but I did show her the trailer, and she found the giants funny rather than scary at home, but not in the cinema. sorry if I spoilt it for anyone else near the front.
Anyway I enjoyed what I watched it seemed like a good family film (for older children), my 7yo and 10yo girls also watched it, and really enjoyed it, and neither were scared. there were two swear words used which in no way added to the film or the particular scene, so why bother, I don't even like my 14yo hearing swear words so why put them in a film that 12yo can watch on their own.

Thanks to the usual suspects for tickets. 7/10 for the film, and 10/10 for the ticket fairies. good to see you all

Pretty much the only thing I got out of 3D was a long-lasting mark from the glasses. They should either really put an effort in and make the 3D outstanding, or just do a good old-fashioned 2D.
As for the film itself, I really enjoyed it. I got into the story from the very beginning and felt my interest held throughout. Quite clearly it was not an overly ambitious movie, but it most definitely was fun. Though not sure if it was something for the kids, as I found some scenes more violent than I would have expected/wanted.
All in all it was most definitely worth the trip, despite the miserable weather, as the movie was entertaining and the company excellent.

Actually I think you might have found that the smaller glasses were in fact children's ones? We at Glasgow were presented with the choice of two boxes of glasses - adult ones and childrens ones. Only difference I could see was size.

No, they weren't the children's ones, I think they're a new and "improved" batch as the shape was different too with the glass part bigger than normal, but the legs of the glasses were tighter.

Here's my review. I liked it, but I thought the film was a little confused at how much sympathy we were supposed to be feeling for the giants. I'm surprised to see everyone knocking the 3D btw, I thought it was very intelligently applied when you see the world from the giant's POV and everything is foreshortened, making the men look tiny!

I think I might be done with the whole CG fairytale thing for the moment though.

DS is nearly 4 and loved it. The wee boys behind me were about 7/8 but they didn't sound like regular cinema go-ers and were hyper. DD at nearly 10 really enjoyed it. Young kids don't seem to get the scary parts that older ones do.

I really liked this. Hoult is growing on me (loved him in Warm Bodies), Ewan cracked me up with his stiff upper lip comments and bar Hoults poor farmer boy outfit and loved the costumes. o/

I thought this film was ok. I wasn't massively impressed by the 3D but the bit with the Giant's face coming towards the screen was really good (but gross). Great cast, I love me some Ewan McGregor so that was nice too.
