I actually really really enjoyed this movie despite seats in the second row, no popcorn and a very painful neck afterwards. I thought the visual was absolutely spectacular (maybe because I was really close) and I was actually at times quite scared by all the kaijus and I'm not a huge fan of 3D in general. There were a few hilariously lame moments and slower scenes but overall I thought it was a good story, very very good music and brilliant visuals.

I wish I'd got the guards name now, I'd employ him, Clare.

highly anime inspired is another thought that comes to mind (movie, not the security mhua). Remembering Speed Racer....

The trailers have been somewhat misleading, I expected a seriously big apocalypse movie but it turned out to be a kind of a wacky Top Gun for 13 year olds, but with aliens and robots.

Big fan of Del Toro but it's difficult to believe he had a hand in this compared to his previous films. It felt like a Manga film and probably might have been better in that format. I won't be watching it again but I think kids would love it.

Here's my full review - once again I absolutely loved it.

This film is pretty much the perfect form of the summer blockbuster, I had a ridiculous grin on my face almost from start to finish. It's intelligent without being exclusive and exhilarating without being dumb. Guillermo del Toro has worked miracles here.

I really enjoyed it, so much so I glossed over some of the plot holes - the aforementioned lack of mobiles and the how the robots fought in such deep water (or did I miss the explanation?)

Anyway, great spectacle and some nice moments such as Ron Perlman's shoe and streets ahead of Transformers and Godzilla, though still short of Independence Day for me. o/

Saw this with my niece yesterday at Greenwich O2. She loved it. I unfortunately didn't. This was despite the wonderful Idris Elba being in it - I thought this man could do no wrong - but hey ho! Also I'm rather shocked that one of my favourite directors Guillermo del Toro directed this. The good bits were the 3D, which was surprisingly good and there was lots of action, also Ron Perlman was excellent (especially the extra bit during the credits), however there were many holes in the plot and the dialogue in some parts were unintentionally laughable. Nevertheless 6.5/10
