I quite enjoyed the film. A nice break from blood and guts and foul language. Didn't care for Florence who knew before the wedding what she was getting herself into. Why went through with it and caused so much suffering for Gilbert? She managed to dump one suitor before in spite of pressure from a domineering father. Was she marrying for love or for imagined celebrity status because A.J. was supposed to be a genius with a promising future?

Saw this yesterday in Wimbledon. Unlike many of the posters here, I enjoyed it - one needs to remember it is a romantic costume drama not Star Trek. I agree that it was slow-moving but the beautiful scenery of my native Cornwall more than made up for it (I know Lamorna very well). In addition to the scenery the costumes were beautiful and the lighting very authentic - which gave the film a dreamy quality. As it is based on a true story, there is no point in complaining about the plot, because that the story has been portrayed as accurately as possible. I really liked Emily Browning as Florence. I previously saw her in Sleeping Beauty (which I absolutely hated - with a vengeance), however she has a sort of ethereal quality and at the time I felt sure we would be seeing a lot more of her in future (for those who think this might be referring to the nude scenes, believe me, there was a LOT more nudity in Sleeping Beauty). Dan Stevens was playing the same type of character as his Downton Abbey role, which is presumably why he has now lost a lot of weight and has let his hair go back to its natural brown colour - as otherwise he would be forever typecast in these sorts of roles. I am not too keen on Dominic Cooper and just wish he would give himself a proper shave for one. Back in 1913, I fell sure that men would have either had a moustache, a beard of would be clean-shaven, not sporting designer stubble.

I would give it 8/10 for the pure escapism and wonderful filming locations

I went to see this tonight in Maidenhead and the cinema was quite empty
I ,like a few other people enjoyed the film
Have to admit it was greatly enhanced by the scenery though

I missed this as my parents arrived yesterday morning for a visit. Doesn't sound like I missed much, although my OH says I'll "watch anything"!!

I thought it was a lovely film, great filming and pacing, beautiful setting, good leads. Fairly romantic as well, recommended!

I saw this on Sunday morning and realised this would never appeal to a great many people. It has nothing to do with the age of the viewer as some people far younger than I, appeared to enjoy it greatly as did I.

It looked beautiful which is hardly surprising given the subject matter and I thought the acting was wonderful.

I think of this film as one that will appeal to a "mature minded" audience. One who appreciate a slow building story, not every film needs a car chase and explosions to be decent film.

It was a fairly sparsely attended preview so I was very annoyed that an older couple sat in front of me and the male talked constantly; his deep rumbling voice was extremely disturbing.

I saw it again yesterday with a younger companion. A slightly better attended screening but we had several walk outs. :wall: I think I appreciated it more last night and felt more emotional at the ending.

However, I really couldn't believe that despite my mutterings, my companion was constantly checking his phone for text messages. That's the last time I take him!

So to refer back to the "ageist" comments. Ignorance comes in all ages and what is needed is respect!

I went to see this at the screening last week and I enjoyed it in parts but also got frustrated and bored too. I had little sympathy for the main character as I have no idea why she said yes to that idiot when really the only time she appeared to have spent with him was her sat on a horse.

It was nice to go to a screening though and I have seen much worse films.

still... i can only give it a 5/10

Beautiful Cornish landscapes, but that's where the brilliance ended. Dull storytelling and very unbelievable that she chose AJ. 2/5 stars.

The acting was very good, but I really didn't care for the plot.
