Alex Zane was outside the Odeon LS with large crowds all around and his interviews were projected onto a large screen. I expect JF was speaking to the crowds in front of him rather than those in a cinema waiting. The footage shown in the cinemas was not live either, it was sometime after it actually happened.

- Cineworld starts ‘sky-high’ search for all Spider-Man superhero namesakes in the UK -

Ahead of the highly anticipated release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on tomorrow, Cineworld has launched a search for all Brits named ‘Peter Parker’ in the UK. The superhero alter egos will be offered free access to see the film at Cineworld, the UK’s leading cinema chain, on opening Easter weekend.

All Brits named Peter Parker are invited to their local Cineworld cinema; there are 82 across the country, on Wednesday 16th April to collect their super-hero movie experience as well as free tickets for up to five friends and family.

No running off to change your name to be eligible, only men named Peter Parker with valid passports or driving licenses qualify for the offer. Names must be spelt exactly as per the character in the film, and they can’t be middle names. Film tickets will be offered for the opening days of the film (Wednesday 16th April – Monday 21st April).

Those who aren’t named after the infamous superhero can also enjoy the ultimate movie experience for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at Cineworld from 16th April, with state of the art technology including IMAX, D-BOX and 3D in selected cinemas.

Although I enjoyed this it wasn't without it's flaws, more than anything I thought the quality of the villains really let it down (Dane DeHann's performance was decent enough but Jamie Foxx's was only okay and as for Paul Giamatti well he was quite frankly awful in this and completely unsuited to his role).

However, I loved Andrew Garfield in this & I was pleasantly surprised that they decided to incorporate one of the best known Spider-Man stories into this movie.

Overall it was solid comic book flick but no more than that so it only gets a 7/10 from me...

P.S there was a mid-credits bonus but it was just a short scene from the new X-Men movie...

I saw this on Tuesday too. It was certainly a great deal better film than the first one which I always dub as Spiderman: The REtold Story. I thoroughly enjoyed this particular Spiderman who's character is actually more akin to the comics (which were one of my two favourite superhero comics, Batman being the other). And very much has the same vibe as the awesome 90s animated series. But there lies a slight weakness, much of it did feel TOO MUCH like the animated series but personally I loved it despite a niggling feeling it shouldn't be so blatant.

Actually there are other weaknesses...once again we have the same stories repeated from the Sam Raimi's trilogy and furthermore none of the story is fresh. None of it, despite the fact there are about four stories running parallel in this film. A fragile romance, the origins of a supervillain (albeit pretty powerful and cool villain), a home domestic drama including a major laundry crisis, the emergence of another familiar supervillain and the story that was supposed to be told in the first bloody film (you know, the so called "untold" story) which turned out to be so meh.

Yet despite the lack of fresh storytelling, the film has a wonderful sense of direction and vibe, rolling along with a self delusional confidence that it is telling a new original storyline and while I pity its delusion, I am nevertheless swept away with the film's insurmountable energy and zest. The drama, comedy, and action are superbly executed and performed with sincere enthusiasm by all involved. I am especially pleased to finally see Dane Dehaan given a high profile role since I first saw him in Chronicle in which he really impressed me...although, his role in this film as Harry Osborn is somewhat similar. He has a refreshingly edgy intensity in his looks and performances. As for Andrew Garfield, he has really earned the ridiculous striped spandex delivering the perfect Peter Parker/Spiderman personas that I had imagined from the comics back in the 80s/90s, more so than he had done in the first film.

Despite my wary misgivings in its unoriginal multi storylines, I came out very pleased having enjoyed a good ride, it was a true Spiderman movie and in all honesty, has a faithful vibe to the comics. While the first film gave me a sense of complete redundancy after Raimi's awesome and still very fresh trilogy, this film just about merits its existence to stand on its accord.

7.5/10

I FINALLY got to see this last night and my patience was definitely rewarded. Not only did I see some excellent trailers I hadn't seen before (Maleficent and Godzilla, most notably) but the film was once again a cracker. I re-watched the first film in anticipation on Sunday and so it was still fresh in my mind when seeing the sequel, making it easier to follow the overall story arc and notice the major differences.

I really, REALLY loved this film. Opposed to so many other superheroes (Captain America being the major exception for me), Spider-Man is such a likeable character; he's funny, witty, sweet, not too arrogant (though obviously superpowers do get to his head sometimes as well), mostly down-to-earth and I think Andrew Garfield plays the character perfect amounts of cool and geeky to pull it off. His relationships with Gwen and Aunt May are incredibly sweet and heart-warming - I love how Gwen has her own story arc within the film and isn't just a one-dimensional extension of Spider-Man, solely there to support his character as a love interest, but actually gets to be her own person and use her smarts to help Spidey for once. Also, despite this movie being well over two hours long (and a LOT of stuff happens in it) it was such a compelling storyline that time just flew by and I was disappointed when it was over.

Now to the not so good bits: There wasn't enough Harry Osborne or Peter Parker. So much time was spent on Spider-Man flying around for nice special effects (which looked great in 3D on the big screen at Odeon Leicester Square and will surely have been even more spectacular in Imax) as well as a back story for Electro (can't a bad guy just be a bad guy? Why does he need so much development beforehand?), that there was less time to develop the relationship between Peter and Harry or to show Peter just as a normal guy, enjoying the things he did in the first film. While he had a camera slung around his neck and we know he takes photos (which was a plot point rather than developing the character) I don't remember seeing him actually taking any photos in the film. Or riding his beloved skateboard. There were little to no scenes at school (they could've set the graduation later in the film), so besides his interactions with Gwen and Harry there was none with his peers (such as Flash in the first film). While the story of his parents got a decent amount of screen time most of it was disconnected to Peter as it happened in the past and I felt it cut into screen time of Peter and Aunt May. There were two funny/wisecrack bits between the latter two, but they were both in the trailer so didn't receive the laughs they would have otherwise.

In short, I think this film lost a lot of the heart I fell in love with in the first movie in favour of spectacular fight sequences, special effects and over-development of the baddies and the Oscorp backstory. I realise that with a second film in a trilogy (I know a fourth one is in the works as well, but it wasn't part of the original overall arc for the three films) is often more story-driven rather than character-driven, so I have to let my disappointment off the hook somewhat for that, but I still would've preferred a bit more of Peter as a person outside of the one-dimensional focus on his Spider-Man persona as it was the heart I fell in love with so much in the first film.

This is still one of the best (if not the best) film I've seen this year - and well worth using my precious blue Odeon voucher with no restrictions or expiry date for - so I will give it a 9.5 (the first was a solid 10 in my eyes).

Also liked the bonus scene from X-Men: Days of Future Past, but what is it with films showing a credit teaser from other upcoming movies nowadays rather than one for the sequel to the film we've just watched?

Finally saw this today.

It was ok but that was it for me. I didn't get the spark or feel involved with it, so to be honest I was a bit disappointed.

Clearly just me though. OH loved it.

I was left a bit disappointed after watching this. After watching the trailer I think I had higher expectations. It wasn't a bad film I just felt it was missing something although not sure what that was. I also found it a little long and dragged out. But after reading ther people's reviews I think I'm in the minority.
