44 Inch Chest
Re: 44 Inch Chest
Does anyone know what the title "44 inch chest" actually refers to? I've tried Googling the answer but to no avail.
Re: 44 Inch Chest
I think the title is supposed to refer to both the size of the wardrobe that features in the film (although I won't explain why or how it features in order to avoid spoilers) and perhaps there may also be a deeper second meaning - a large chest size in clothing terms could be a reference to a big guy like the character Ray Winstone and the film certainly deals with his desperate need to protect his masculinity...

Thanks Ciro22. Not sure about first explanation - 44 inch chest might work if the item of furniture was a chest of drawers but I think you are absolutely spot on about the title referencing clothing size and Colin's masculinity which had taken a battering by his wife's betrayal.
Sadly, methinks the title was the most intriguing thing about the film!

Dovetail - If you think about how the wardrobe was used in the film then you can see that it's not so much a piece of furniture but rather a
makeshift prison or coffin
so I think the title might well refer to both its size and usage within the film.
