I hope so to, i mean every trailer i have seen so far has had the joke with the yoga guy and his speedos, that was hilarious when i first saw the trailer now its just been overused and probably won't be funny in the actual film.AnneJ wrote:Bring on tonight, really looking forward to it, but just hoping all the good stuff wasn't in the trailer!!

Re: Couples Retreat
No indeed, I have no intention of p*ying for it! I meant only that if pa*d previews start right after the free ones, that's definitely the end of the free type. And call me cynical, but maybe they want to get as many people as possible to p*y to see it before the critics put them off?superhero wrote:No, don't p*y for it!! or at least wait for the fmukkers reviews.
Ms Thrifty wrote:I was surprised there weren't more previews for this, but perhaps the distributors lost their nerve? On the "Too many films at once" thread, I was tempted to say "all right for some" and to point out that some people have no previews at all this week, as both this film and "An Education" are only on in selected areas. But maybe it's no great loss. Also, pa*d previews start the very day after the free one.
Re: Couples Retreat
Just back from Couples Retreat and didnt like it one bit... very tiring, very unfunny and overstayed its welcome by a good 15-20 mts... Having said that, it was free so can't complain much...

Re: Couples Retreat
God, I used to love Vince Vaughn, couldn't wait until a new film with him came out, Old School, Dodgeball, I even humoured Wedding Crashers, but by Break-Up, Fred Claus and last year's disaster I realised he'd lost any sense of quality.
I dunno, with Faverau back in writing and Jason Bateman, Serafinowicz, Jean Reno and Kristen Bell I figured the odds were high it could be a solid film.
I was wrong.
A painful 2 hours, when the film is motivated by kids telling parents they should go on the trip, and not one of the characters were likable, and only one couple should stay together, you have to question what you have written, delete it and make a better film.
How did this make $35 million at the weekend in the US, did people go back 5 times to 'laugh' Cos I heard about 5-6 chuckles over the film from the audience.

Re: Couples Retreat
lol oh dear....the bad reviews have started already! Maybe I came in with such low low expectations, it was kind of half decent I thought.I thought there were quite a few laughs from the crowd at Islington. My friend was working near Islington, so we picked to see this film but with very very low expectations. It had some funny lines and a semblance of a plot (gosh compared to a film like Observe and Report, which I watched on dvd last night and that film REALLY didn't have a plot).
I do agree with what Ethan said, but I don't think the film aspires to be anything of higher importance and does what it says on the tin. I definitely agree with whats said about the ending though, it really dragged. The first half was definitely better with lots of nice cameos, esp from a few people from the Hangover! 6.5/10 for me
PS I never really look at who does the music, but my fav, AR Rahman of Slumdog fame and numerous Bollywood films does the music for this film. What on earth is he doing in a film like this!! Is he short on $$$$?

Re: Couples Retreat
Mindnumbingly boring and overlong. Strictly not funny. The scene with the yoga session painfully embarrassing. Trashing out every cliche in the book. I have never liked Vince Vaughn and you can't expect much better from the other actors in there, but Jean Reno? Geez, he is a really good French actor, what is he doing in there playing a relationship guru?

Were u at Islington as well Beate? I thought the crowd kind of liked it abit....
Re: Couples Retreat
Totally agree with your comment... How on earth did this film even get studio backing? As for audience reactions, I watched it at the Vue in Reading and the only chuckles were reserved for the li'l kid and those 2 scenes ...A lot of folks were getting really fidgety towards the end and 3-4 ppl walked off 10 mts before the end...EthanRunt wrote:God, I used to love Vince Vaughn, couldn't wait until a new film with him came out, Old School, Dodgeball, I even humoured Wedding Crashers, but by Break-Up, Fred Claus and last year's disaster I realised he'd lost any sense of quality.

Re: Couples Retreat
Thats whats most surprising, everyone's saying how rubbish this film is and I am wondering what AR Rahman is doing linking himself to a film like this after Slumdog?

Re: Couples Retreat
I don't think any/many people walked out at Vue Islington, but interesting they reserved lots of seats for competition winners and none of them turned up!! They must have read the reviews! lol
