Re: Holiday Thread
Rhinefield Hotel and The New Forest is just brilliant! They hold 40 weddings there a year, and I can see why. It is just so beautiful and peaceful. Loads of ponies in the New Forest, even eating grass on the roadside as you drive past. Like being on safari. And the weather was sunny and warm, just perfect!
We also drove down to the coast to Lymington as it was only 20 minutes away, there you can wander round the narrow streets, or watch the men sort out the oysters on the quayside, or at the marina, watch the ferry coming and going from the Isle of Wright and soak in the sun. We also had the best ice cream - real dairy cream and ginger.
We then drove down to Christchurch to have a late lunch at the Old Mill down by the quay, and then wander round The Priory Church and its grounds afterwards. It's reputed to be the longest parish church in England. Its architecture is breathtaking. It is also home of the "Miraculous Beam" - it is said that when the church was being built, a mysterious carpenter helped. One evening a wooden beam was found to be too short, so was left on the ground, while the workmen thought what to do about it overnight. But to their amazement, the next morning the workmen found that the beam was the proper length and had already been placed in the correct position. The mysterious carpenter did not appear after this and it was assumed that he must have been Jesus Christ who helped to build his own church. The church became known as Christ's Church of Twynham, as the town was then called. Later the town became Twynham-Christchurch, now Christchurch.
So a very relaxing, peaceful and interesting couple of days! Totally recommend it!

Cordon bleu, so the portions may be a bit small, and presentation looks too good to eat. The foie gras was a bit too much and rich, the rest was delicious though. They got a new chef and he must be making an extra effort. Normally if I ask for an alternative, they give you something like a fruit salad, but this time, they made me a proper dessert, that was just as good. And those that did not want the fish, they got chicken which actually looked much more substantial. But all very yummy!

Wow that is making me homesick, Christchurch is a sweet little place, well it was when I was growing up. Its grown a bit since then. the Priory is somewhere good to stroll along. shame you went past Highcliffe, There's a renovated Castle there which does weddings, weddings etc. You can also drop in for coffee, after walking along the cliffs or the beach.prettyxcool wrote:Rhinefield Hotel and The New Forest is just brilliant! Re: Holiday Thread
We had a good group. Lots of chat and laughter, there was a wedding on as well, the bride's father was in the opposite bedroom, and there were loads of cuddly donkeys called Rufus in the corridors, guarding the bedroom doors. You will enjoy it Beate, the rooms were ever so comfy too.Beate wrote:Gosh I can't wait for my turn. 21st April, here I come!
