Kids can enjoy free activities with Sporting Chance when schools out

If you’re wondering how to keep the kids busy, happy and active during school holidays we can help with a huge range of free sports activities available across the UK through our Sporting Chance programme.

Sporting Chance gives kids the chance to try a new sport for free – and to make new friends at the same time. So, if they’re inspired by the countdown to the London 2012 Olympics it’s a great time to check out what’s on near you.

There are all sorts of sports and activities on offer – from football, cricket and athletics to swimming, dance and martial arts.

Our Sporting Chance scheme works in partnership with local sports providers to make sports and recreational activities readily available for children over the holidays. It’s our aim to ensure there is opportunities for children in communities local to every Asda store.

Get involved: Sporting Chance will be back in the Spring so check back then to see how you can get involved with sporting activities near you.

Magic Worlds at Museum of Childhood

Exploring Magic Worlds at Museum of Childhood, a special exhibition dedicated to magic, illusion and fantasy is set to have both kids and adults spellbound during its run. Focusing on the ways in which magic and the illusion of magic have been at the heart of much children's and adults art and entertainment for centuries, the V&A Museum of Childhood revels in the fantastical world.

Magic Worlds at Museum of Childhood
For thousands of years, across all kinds of cultures, magic has been a central part of belief, folklore, storytelling and childhood entertainment. From the villlage Shaman to the likes of modern magician David Blane, they all have the power to enchant, whether we believe in their magical skills or not. Celebrating the history of magic and its practitioners, the exhibition Magic Worlds at Museum of Chidlhood features a host of exciting, unusual and above all magical exhibits.

The history of magic
Looking at the ways in which magic has influenced artists and writers over the years, the exhibition brings together a series of magically influenced articles that are certain to capture the imagination. Magic costumes, identities, tricks, illusions, fantastical tales, film props, merchandise, optical toys and magic lanterns are just some of the items on show in Magic Worlds. Here the Museum of Chilhood also brings together games, books and toys, all of which reflect our human obsession with powers beyond our natural ability.

Get hands on
Any exhibition at the Museum of Childhood wouldn't be the same without the chance to get stuck in and try out some of the exhibits for yourselves. With plenty of hands on activities and games to try out, Magic Worlds at Museum of Childhood explores the themes of conjuring tricks, fairies and enchantment and realms of fantasy. Here kids can get to grips with stories by Hans Christian Anderson and J.R.R. Tolkien, examine fairy themed dressing up costumes and get to grips with magic toy sets.

Magic Worlds at Museum of Childhood takes place from 10am - 5.45pm Saturday 1st October 2011 - Sunday 4th March 2012. Entrance is free.
