Join in with the arty crowd this half term at Tate Modern as gallery invites children to learn more about the works in its collection and create some weird and wonderful art of their own.
Half term at Tate Modern
Giving kids the chance to experiment with different materials, play with jigsaws and board games and take part in drawing activities and more, there is loads to keep your little ones out of mischief at half term at the Tate Modern. The half term activities are suitable for children aged five and over and are free to attend. The activity packs and art sessions are available in the Welcome Room, while more activities can be found in the Clore Learning Centre.
The art activities for half term at the Tate Modern run from 11am - 4pm, Saturday 11th February - Sunday 19th February 2012. Admission is free.

Royal Weekend

The Council is holding a weekend of events to celebrate becoming a Royal Borough.
On Friday 3 February, Greenwich is officially declared a Royal Borough, marked by the receipt of the Royal Charter – a document formally confirming the Borough’s royal status and signed by Her Majesty The Queen.
Woolwich, Friday 3 February
On Friday, General Gordon Square will be hosting festivities from 4.30pm, with marquees on the square, roving entertainers and winter warmer drinks.
The Big Screen will show a specially commissioned short film exploring Greenwich’s royal connections and explaining the features of the new coat of arms.
At 6.30pm, Councillor Chris Roberts, the Leader of Greenwich Council, will welcome people to the Royal Borough with a short speech ahead of the highlight of the evening - a spectacular firework display set to music.
The event will end at approximately 7pm.
Eltham, Saturday 4 February
Eltham will be hosting the festivities across three venues on Saturday 4 February.
The Eltham Centre
The Eltham Centre will have musical performances throughout the day, and the library will hold a drop-in crown-making workshop from 10am until 4pm. The Royal Charter will be on display.
Eltham Palace
Eltham Palace will be open from 10am until 2pm, with a whole host of royal activities and free entry. There will be a falconer, interactive performers, hobby horse jousting, Tudor confectionery and workshops for children. Tudor musicians will entertain and Henry VIII will lead the dancing.
Well Hall Pleasaunce
A commemorative black poplar will be planted at Well Hall Pleasaunce at 2pm.
Tudor Barn
The evening festivities will begin at 5pm at the Tudor Barn in Well Hall Pleasaunce. There will be a stage with musical entertainment and outside food and drink stalls. The musical firework finale will be at 6pm.
Greenwich, Sunday 5 February
The grand finale to the royal celebration weekend will take place in Greenwich on Sunday 5 February. A day of activities will end with the Grand Royal Greenwich Parade and a spectacular musical fireworks display.
Please note that, due to the parade, bus diversions will be in place in Greenwich on this day.

The National Maritime Museum
Lantern-making workshops for the parade will be held between 1pm and 3.30pm. Children and their families can make a lantern inspired by the National Maritime Museum's exhibitions and then take part in the Grand Parade.
Discover Sundays workshops will run from 11.30am to 1.30pm and 2pm to 6pm. Suitable for all ages, they will allow participants to be inspired by Greenwich's maritime past and to explore their personal connections to the sea.
The Queen's House and the Royal Observatory
Special tours will run throughout the day from these venues.
The Old Royal Naval College
There will be a stage on the King Charles Lawns with musical entertainment from 2pm.
Historical-themed displays and activities will be open from 12pm, including a falconer, hobby horse jousting, historical costumes for children to try on, historical fairground stalls and games and much more.

Meet the creator of the amazing interior of the Painted Hall, Sir James Thornhill - the first artist to receive a knighthood. Hear about his influences, his techniques and his rivals and just why it took 19 years to complete his masterpiece. Suitable for all the family
Crown making, Clore Learning Centre at Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre, 2pm to 4pm
Make a crown fit for a king or queen. Drop in and create your own crown to take home with you. Suitable for all ages
Tactile rug talk, Painted Hall, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 3pm
Touch our innovative tactile rug to find out about the characters on the ceiling of the Painted Hall. Suitable for all ages and for visually impaired visitors
Royal guided tour, Shop at the Old Royal Naval College, Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
Learn more about the fascinating history of the Old Royal Naval College and let a knowledgeable yeoman guide take you on a one-hour royal-themed tour. Costs £5 per person.
