Saw this tonight and the cinema was practically full. It was a long film, but I enjoyed it and it had a good story. It's probably not a film I would have chosen to go to if p*ying, but I would recommend it.

Films about musicians can be a bit boring - it took me years to recover from the interminable tedium of "Round Midnight" and I have tended to give them a wide berth ever since. Hence I didn't see "Ray".

Saw this in Edinburgh last night. Cinema very busy, hardly any spare seats, surprising as Edinburgh holiday weekend.

Had the Woodstock trailer, but was only on half the screen!! then the tellten trailer, tho dont think I will be telling ten.

Good performances by both RD and JF but found the film disjointed. Not enough on the musicians past and like the others found it disappointing that although he had the support of the chap at Lamp no one could get him to see if medication would help.Thought the volatility of his character covered well.

RD's relationship with wife or ex wife was confusing too. He obviously did not follow through on things so it was nice to see that he kept on with this one.

Music and acting good but film itself was only okay. Glad it was a freebie as would not have liked to p*y for it.

Going to see this tonight in LDN, fan of RD's work so looking forward to it. However reading all the reviews I'm slightly scared about seeing it.

Should be a good night out anyway and hopefully I can lower my expectations and be happily suprised by the movie!

I really liked the movie. Thought I would find it a bit boring but it was great!

I found myself crying and I couldn't put my finger on why. After we had got home and discussed it I think it was because of the general hopelessness of some of the cases at Lamp? I thought Jamie Foxx put in an excellent performance - in my opinion better then in Ray (though this may be clouded by the fact I didn't like the character Ray at all!). And I though Robert Downey Jnr was very convincing as a normal guy thinking he can 'fix' a homeless person. Overall I thought it was excellent film! 8.5-9/10!
I wonder if any of them were real homeless people. I was reading the cast list and a good proportion of them appeared to be people playing themselves.
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that they did have real homeless people amongst the cast.

I've just returned from Gateshead, where the attendance could have been no greater than 30% - very disappointing turn out. Jamie Foxx's performance was excellent - he will surely get an Oscar nomination for this role. The subject matter was a difficult one, but was tackled well. I was very moved by the events in the film, and for once, had not read many reviews, so was a little surprised to find out at the end that it ws based on real life.
My friend and I do not think that the film will have wide appeal, and thought it might be disturbing for 12 year olds.

However 7/10 from me.

I think it was a bit fuller at the back andrews, I'd say about 45% but still not good.
hmmm I don't think I appreciated this film as much I think I should, I found it very slow and the time really dragged, boyf even fell asleep! I found it a bit mumbly and difficult to understand what was said at times and I didn't get the relevance/point of the story between the journalist and his ex-wife. 5.5/10 from me and that's being generous. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
