Re: Prometheus
Thanks to funthing29, my bf and I got to see this film yesterday. I read some reviews here before the screening, so my expectations weren't that high. Even so, the film fell below my adjusted expectations. Yes, it's visually stunning but the script is poor (especially towards the end).
In the last minutes of the film I wished everyone would just die so the film could end.
6 / 10

Re: Prometheus
What a crap film! The characters were one dimensional and completely unrelatable and some of the scenes were absolutely disgusting and made me turn away
(ie. the alien baby and the breaking of body parts starting with the very first scene)
. It was also VERY predictable
(saw the alien baby and Guy Pearce being Charlize's father coming from miles away)
and the old guy's prostethics were absolutele shit, just laughable. Also, Michael Fassbender
as a robot head at the end? How utterly ridiculous!
The one thing I did like was how clear and slick it all looked and the 3D really seemed to add an extra dimension to the image. Even when taking off the 3D glasses (which I did at times as they were very uncomfortable on top of my normal glasses) it was very watchable (a lot less blurry than other 3D films, it was very similar to watching something on VHS).

Re: Prometheus
Film looked amazing, although the 3d as per usual was totally uneccessary. Why do they bother? Ridley diplomatically said it was stunning in 2d.
Anyway its nowhere near as good as I thought it was going to be, nor as bad as I feared it would be.
Most of it had been done before in Alien
talking heads, things erupting out of bodies
and other sci films probably.
half of the Actors were totally wasted, why get known actors, then leave them in the background. Agreed the prothetics were appalling, I can't ever remember seeing any in any film that wasn't.
FAssbinder, Thereon and for what little he had to do, Idris Elba were both good, however I'm not a fan of Noomi Rapace. ( I did like her screen partner though

I am not a fan of Noomi either! Her screen partner was Logan Marshall-Green, he has totally buffed up since I saw him in Traveler <3

Re: Prometheus
Just to oomph my anticipation for Prometheus, which I'll see on Tuesday. I watched Alien and Aliens from my blu ray boxset last night. Both films, I watched the directror's cut. Its still amazing how very different the 2 films are and how defining, the mastery of Ridley Scott and James Cameron directorial styles are. Onto this day, I still hold Cameron's Aliens to be the greatest edge of the seat rollercoaster ride ever made and Ridley's Alien to be the creepiest sci fi ever made (though Event Horizon is creepier, its not as classy as a whole). I expect Prometheus to be a slow burn, moody piece of work as Ridley's Alien film was, not an action packed fest. I always had a feeling this is what may divide audience. Every great director have had their peak phase and its nearly always in the early part of their careers when the raw energy, risk taking and imagination dominates their film making prowess compared to when directors get older, they take less risks, become too focussed on technical mastery and that fresh raw zestful energy dissipates somewhat. For that reason I never think Cameron will ever likely top his Terminator and Aliens. Ridley will never likely top his Alien and Blade Runner. But they can still make great films and maybe one day they might surprise me.

Re: Prometheus
This is the review from my friend who I passed the tickets on to.
I have mixed feelings... I have very strong links with Alien, my father worked on the original and in particular the Space Jockey and ship... Hence I have always been a huge fan of Ridleys original. When I first heard Mr Scott was taking up the seat behind the lens to direct a prequel I though 'perfect, nobody but Ridley can do this'. Several years passed and after rumour turned fact Prometheus landed on our doorstep with teaser trailers promising die hard fans what appeared to be the answers to all that we have been expecting. Ok get to the point I hear... So my views on this film, I can honestly say it was visually absolutely stunning, a masterpiece, the subtle 3D effects in the opening sequence, the silicon storm were out of this world, but and here is the but, I felt somewhat let down. Why would the Space Jockey be so hostile, pure hatred of our existence? I felt the film lacked the build up of suspense, I know we've seen all things 'alien' now but Ridley promised us so much more and hasn't quite delivered. Maybe he is keeping this for a second prequel who knows... I felt the first three quarters of the film were fantastic, but the last half hour was a huge rushed effort, trying to squeeze in too much, a bit like what Lucas did with star wars ep 3....
Forgive me if I offend anyone with my views, I don't want to elaborate on specifics as it would spoil the plot for others, but I am left with more questions rather than feeling satisfied and feel hard done by with a lack of justice to what could have been a pure bit of genius...
6 out of 10 from me... Good but not great. :-)
