As much as I loved "Spiderman 2", I'm confident it'll kick it's ass. "TDK"? Probably not. Personally, I'd rather benchmark mark it against the first (and still the best) super-hero movie of them all: Richard Donner's "Superman".redgrant wrote:Jayman, if it's better than Spiderman 2 (a superhero classic along with Dark Knight in mine and many people's eyes) then I'll eat my words. But I doubt it will be..

Re: The Amazing Spider Man
Whats this talk about sheets? I want a blanket, its flipping cold out there!
Sorry I didnt post earlier, I thought after the Spider thang, I felt in a mood for a movie, so I went over to the Trocadero to watch a late show of Man on a Ledge.
So just got back and I am stunned to have my first ever good goodie bag, (my first being a cardboard cutout picture of a goodie bag, and then later 3 chocolate coins). But this time I walk out with a fantastic long sleeve special limited edition Spiderman T-shirt, the sort of goodie that one doesnt give to anybody. No one!...except maybe under hypnosis by fmuk princesses blinking their eyelids in a cute way...maybe!
To be honest, the reason I came to this event was because I am not really excited to see the movie. I know that sounds weird but from what I saw at the Empire Big Screen last September, I wasnt sold on having a new spider with Raimi's excellent trilogy fresh in my memory. But I want to be, so I come to this event, to give them a 2nd chance to sell it to me.
And they sure sold it to me. Basically, the event had me at the equivalent of Jerry Maguire's hello, ie the trailer. I dont know if they hypnotised me with all the pre glitz and crowd moral raising antics (they probably did) but the trailer absolutely blew me away. And I have to agree with Jayman and Redgrant, the 3D was superb. The director actually made it clear to us that the whole film was shot in proper 3D from the start. The result shows that quality. However, I will still watch the 2D version on release because I prefer the brighter images, and the scope. 3D diminishes the scope and brightness but I will watch both versions anyway!
The ensuing extended clips however, were actually similar to that shown at the Empire Big Screen. But the effects were more complete and we got to see more of the Lizard too. Somehow, for the first time I get a better feel for the film. I think it is different enough to justify its existence. Andrew Garfield looks great in the role, I can see it now. He gives it his own identity but what really pleased me was that Spiderman is the smarmy cocky villain catcher that we are more familiar with in the comics (and the 90s animated series for that matter). Jayman described him perfectly actually, so I can only agree with that. The other performers look solid and the always enjoyable Martin Sheen makes for a great Uncle Ben.
The cast and crew wanted to emphasis that the film will be an emotional and character driven journey. I can sense that from the clips. It really looks promising. The reveal of the Lizard is still teasing although we do get to see him in full but in very quick flash edits. Looks impressive though :)
The Q&A for Rhys IFan (our celeb guest in London, the other countries had the more glitzier stars) was hilariously stupid but Rhy Ifans gave hilarious answers. There were only about 4 questions:
1. Q. Did you have a snout? Answer...Um....No but I can smell you from a long way.
2. Q. What did you relate to in real life to act as a person who lost an arm ? (seriously I'm not making this up, ok). Answer....um...well I lost my mind a few times
3. Q. Did you have a (damn cant remember but was something stupid). answer: I dont even know what that is but no.
4. Q. What was it like wearing a lizard suit (I think that was the question). answer: actually, this was the only question he gave a an answer to that reached the exhausting length of 2 or 3 sentences. He said he wanted to do all the lizard scenes and do the moves. He hopes those movements will be captured in the film.
I have to say, regardless of how the film turns out, this is awesome marketing :)
