Amazing! Well done! I hope I manage to report a loss this week. Me and the OH have a 5lb challenge - if he gets their first I have to b*y him a new pair of jeans & if I win then I get new underwear.. I really want it to be me!
Finally, I have great pleasure in reporting that I have lost 3 pounds this week despite failing to do any exercise to speak of apart from a couple of short walks.

Re: Weight Watchers
I just looked at your history weight chart...and WOW. you have lost 51lbs since April 2012 !! And still losing, how awesome is that. Furthermore, you have lost that weight at a healthy average of just over 1lb a week. Which means you can maintain the healthy lifestyle much easier than if you had lost the body fat too quickly. I expect you have no stretch marks, loose skin as one would have if they lose weight too quickly. You must look a different, confident, vibrant man than you were in 2012. Feels so damn good doesnt it?!Preston1990 wrote:Woah - It's like Grand Central Station in here these days!![]()
It really is so busy and buzzing - I'm feeding off everyone's enthusiasm (fortunately, it's calorie free!!)![]()
Got loads of things that I want to say, so briefly and in no particular order:
Lovely to hear from you Biggins - sounds like you and hubby have been having a very worrying time recently. Hopefully the docs will come up with a solution soon - it may just be a matter of hitting on the right medication and allowing time for it to settle down. Your recent weight gain reminds me of what happened to me over the last few months (see my weighloss record in my signature for details). I'm determined to regain my last year's sylphlike figure- could we not tempt you back to our little fold to rejoin us on our journey? It would be great to have you along again!
Great to see you back treading these hallowed boards once again MrG - I really enjoy your motivational posts.Sorry to hear that you've dropped to a lower squash league, but I've no doubt that you'll regain your rightful position when you apply that legendary determination to succeed which you have. To this day, I still think about your jacket story and smile. Good luck for your squash game today!

I put it down to the power of salads and vegetables (are you listening Diane- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetable)
Be good everyone!
DId you say Diane preached veggies to you?? Well, go Diane! And go you for listening. I cant stress how important it is for everyone to eat variety of vegetables every day. They are the true Philospher's Stone, the elixir of life. They will not only ensure you a healthier life, they will make you look younger than you are right to the end. Eat those veggies and all colours. That ensure you get all the minerals and vitamins needed to avoid any health problems in future too.
Ok so what is with the Clarinet, I'm missing a running joke there, arent I!? I tried blowing into a trombone once...damn thats hard.
Baty, I truly love your "workaround the obstacles" spirit. Youtube chair exercises, brilliant
In the past I used to champion this girl's videos because she uses perfect technique, ensures proper warm up and cooldown stretching and very good pacing. There are so many very BAD technique videos out there, so its important to watch right ones. The only negative with this girl's videos is she doesnt have music and Diane annoyingly pointed out she sniffs a lot, and now I cant help bloody noticing that too. But she's great and has an exercise routine for every circumstances. Do you have any stretch bands or dumbbells? They would serve you well to keep in shape while you recover, and many of her videos use them.

Biggins, keep looking forward, dont think about the past year just think healthily especially for your hubbie. He will want to see you healthy and fit, I am sure. I've admired your past achievements and want to see more, set yourself a goal. Sorry to hear about your husband's problems, my best wishes for his recovery and treatment.
missmac, hello there! I like the rivalry incentive between you and your hubbie and the rewards...brilliant. There's nothing like setting goals to reach your achievements, without goals, there is no drive.
Yesterday, my squash game was move to today, so instead I ran 5km to the gym near a cinema, did an upper body workout followed by 10 mins on a wonky cross trainer. Then watched a pretty good film called Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale and very frightening Woody Harrelson.
Today, playing the squash game :)

Re: Weight Watchers
Thanks for those kind words MrG. But don't forget that as well as losing 51lbs since Apr 2012, I also put on 28lbs during my two lapse periods. So that makes a much less impressive overall loss of 23 lbs. Still much better than I was, but I do need to lose another 14lbs or so to get back to where I was at my lightest last year and then to continue on till my BMI is around 25 or less.TheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:[I just looked at your history weight chart...and WOW. you have lost 51lbs since April 2012 !! ...........

The clarinet is a recent eBay p*rchase. I joke that it aids weightloss, as it is impossible to eat whilst playing it.

Thanks Mr G for the youtube link I have had a look and have subscribed to it. Lots of information on it as well.
I do try to exercise, walk, 'responsibly' but sometimes my foot and ankle just makes me arrrrgghghghgh. (That's the clean version
)
The chair exercising is going well but I'm not quite up to the tempo of the on screen tutor
Thanks for the support everyone

My heart goes out to you Baty as I too hate resting.
Preston I know it is dire and I should allow myself time to eat. I get the shakes if I let my sugar go to low hence needs must as I have been eating on the go which is so so bad.

Re: Weight Watchers
Hi, can I say if you suffer with low sugars - bananas - the wonder food - give you a sugar buzz lifting your count out of the danger area and because the energy from bananas is slow release they fill you up and stabilise your count for a while. I use them before going to the gym. They boost my sugars and give me energy to work out and some - one of your five a day and full of vitamins and minerals. The reason I know they are so good is I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last year and used bananas to control my sugars after being sick fed up of glucose/fructose syrups in Lucozade drinks, tablets and dextro tabs. By the end of the year I was taken off insulin as 'luckily' my body had somehow recovered and started producing insulin again :) :) :) I don't know if my weight loss, change in diet and exercise regime helped but all the specialists seemed pretty amazed with my results. I feel so much better but still have to get to 13 1/2 st from around 14 1/2 st at present....

Re: Weight Watchers
Can I suggest a program of videos for you? Of course anything that you think that goes against the grain of your leg injury dont do it but I think I have selected some safe routines but good varied workouts to enjoy. These are on average 10min seated workouts. Now often its hard to keep up with these type of video workouts and it isn't always practical to use the pause and rewind buttons. So what you do, is watch the videos without doing anything. Study and listen to what she says. Stop it at every exercise and do a little rehearsal of what she's done. Then play it again and do the workout properly with her. So what I give you here are three separate workouts, Abs, Upper body and cardio. I presume you have your existing therapy exercises for your legs.baty wrote:Thanks Mr G for the youtube link I have had a look and have subscribed to it. Lots of information on it as well.

In fact all of you can do these in the office during your breaks. Do the abs workout once a week for 4 weeks, Upper body workout twice a week for four weeks and the cardio twice a week. That's 5 days of workouts, have a rest the other two days or if you feel good and energetic, do one more workout of your choice for an extra day. Dont do abs or the upper body workout on two consecutive days, cardio you can if you want.
Now there is one thing I need to add to Nicole's videos. Breathing. She doesnt demonstrate too clearly how you should be breathing because she's so busy talking to you. How you breath is so important for the exercises. So this is what you do. Before you start the rep, take a deep breath then as you do the "pressure" part of the exercise (ie the first motion part of your exercise), you BREATH OUT or Exhale As you release the pressure slowly, BREATH IN slowly. Then repeat for next rep. Master this breathing technique and you will feel the effectiveness of all your exercises.
So for instance, lets say you are doing an arm curl (lifting two dumbbells). The first motion, ie the pressure motion, is lifting the dumbbells, so you take a deep breath and breath out as you raise those dumbbells. Then the second motion (the release motion), you breathe in slowly as you slowly lower the dumbbells back down, ready for the next rep. So keep that breathing technique in mind as you do what ever exercises you do, whether from your videos, or the ones I linked here or your therapy exercises, the breathing technique applies to everything.
One more thing to always maintain when doing any exercises is to always maintain an upright posture even for the abs exercises unless its an upper back exercise. In fact you should all be trying to maintain an upright posture with everything you do, sitting at your desk, watching tv, cooking, etc.
Abs workout from your chair:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2-B-BPmlPA
Full body workout on your chair, need a stretch band for this (baty, did your therapist give you a stetchband? If not, b*y one, they are quite cheap online. The first half is upper body, do that, then when she begins the lower body, either fill that part in with your own therapy exercises or skip to 19:32 to do the cool down stretches)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGT833ogMTw
An alternative to the above for your upper body but with dumbbells instead of stretchbands
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E188slxISG8
This is a cardio workout to break some sweat and burn those calories. (baty, Nicole uses the legs a lot, here, so just concentrate on the upper body movements she does. If you dont find this is effective for you then play a hand game with your daughter, or a wii game)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAeZZbpi8Ow
Finally, this is a 3min upper body stretch routine that you can do anytime but you should really only do this after a little cardio workout so that your muscles are loosened up.
