Thanks Diane, will have a look tonight at the media city, sounds interesting. Need to find out where our hotel is as not in the city centre but near a tube/metro or something. Coming by car so should make it a bit easier to get out and about. Thanks for your thoughts folks.

Dear All

My nephew (8) and niece (5) are visting me over the Bank Holiday weekend.

I would be grateful for any advice on what activities there are for young children in or around Central London this coming weekend.

I'm equally happy to hear of any recommendations people may have of activities / events their children (or like me, someone else's kids) have enjoyed this summer.

I believe the science museum has a special schedule with children's activities for the school holidays, might be worth looking into the other big museums too.

Off to Cornwall in the morning for 3 days. Looking forward to a long overdue break...well sort of, staying at a friend's whose laptop I promised to fix, lol.

Back from a very hot Lisbon and an even hotter Madrid. Loved Lisbon especially as I met up with my old friend (as in we known each other for 10 years or so not that he is old) who is now the minister in the Church of Scotland out in Lisbon. He took us everywhere in the city.

Madrid was different from Lisbon as we had to find our feet there. We went there as part of World Youth Day which is this huge event organised by the Catholics. Our wee group of 17 were from the Church of Scotland. So went to support our catholic friends as we have a big problem up in Scotland with the protestant/catholic divide.

The actual event was a bit disappointing in many ways - lack of free water, lack of information, bad organisations, far too may people, thunderstorms, riots in the week leading to the event.

Just came back from Cornwall. I'm sorry but not as exotic some of your recent hols. This was just a much needed chill out break for me :)

I literally just chilled out in Tavistock, walking the village, running around the country side, palying golf on the Dartmoor moors, watch a film at the Wharf theatre (which only had one screen and was showing just Harry Potter but its a nice little theatre), spend some time with my friend, watching some Blu Rays...and um went to the gym twice

I really enjoyed the golf but I am so crap I drove a golf ball from the tee-off straight at a sheeps face which was just a few yards away. It was stunted for a few seconds for sure. I had wacked that ball so hard but so ridiculously off target. Thankfully the sheep seem to be ok and started grazing the grass again as if nothing happened. My friend wondered if it was safe to even stand a few yards behind my swing. But I did improve by the time we reached 18th hole. From 12 over par average in the first 9 holes, I progressed to averaging about 4 over par, even managing a 1+par at a couple holes. It was a strange golf course, as I never thought it was normal to have sheep, horses, and ponies roaming around everywhere. I certainly had the feeling I was no longer in Peckham, Toto. This golf course also posed some new interesting obstacles...everywhere the ball lands, I have to navigate sheep/cow/horse dung. Yuch, not a comfortable thing for a city boy.

On my last day, I decided to try the clotted cream scones...jesus, so thick and sweet but damn its delicious. Should come with a government health warning though.

I enjoyed my stay, very relaxing. Really needed this break, been working hard this summer.

Oh and I just found out that Tavistock is not even in Cornwall, its in Devonshire. Why the hell did I think it was in Cornwall, I have no idea but since I failed Geography at school, I guess I shouldnt be surprised.
