Christmas

I don’t like the capitalist aspect of Christmas, i.e. enforced present and card lists, plus the outright frightening Secret Santa at work, or having to visit everyone in the family just because it’s tradition. So we are doing away with it this year and will stick to the Christmas tree and a cosy Christmas at home, where books, blankets, TV and tea will play a prominent role. And some nice food from M&S or thereabouts.

Exactly what Christmas should be like - sounds fab! Can I recommend Josh Groban's - "Noel" to play in the background? I think his voice sounds so lovely and relaxing, suitable to the few lazy days spend with family and/or friends. (though my mother always puts on her Silent Night tapes, meaning we'll hear the song come by 50+ times sung by various artists in Dutch, German, Spanish and English )

I'm with you girls; I like writing my cards while watching a lovely Christmas film and remembering how lucky I am to know such lovely people and I don't do it because I have to and have no problem about people not sending them, each to their own. I just meet up with my friends because of the extra days off work, we just enjoy the company and are not demanding we're all more than happy with a coffee and mincepie. Just listened to Josh Groban and what a beautiful voice - that's what Christmas is all about.

Question to you guys, what are your favourite Christmas movies and why? I'm always on the look out for new ones to watch in December so if you can make recs now that'll give me time to get them. Thanks! Ones I need to watch every year:

- A Muppet Christmas Carol: I love the book and nearly all the variations of the story in movie and TV-shows I've seen, but the Muppet version with its catchy songs is my all-time favourite. There goes Mister Humbug...

- Curly Sue: I saw this movie originally when it came out in cinema (as a child my mum would take me to the cinema for Christmas each year. I think that was the only time we went - a vast difference with my multiple times a month now!) and I've had a soft spot for it since. It's a bit cheesy about the hardships of an orphaned girl, but it's nothing like Annie. Curly Sue doesn't live in an orphanage, she has Bill (James Belushi) to take care of her - though they do live on the streets. They con their way into meals and while she's a very tough girl (providing hilarious scenes) of course her dream is to one day have the perfect family. Three guesses how the movie ends? (though each and every time I watch this one, as predictable as it may be, it still brings a tear to my eyes!)

You enjoyed Santa Paws?! My little girl was almost in tears, the kids parents died, then santa died, then the dog died, then when the girl was climbing into the incinerator to save her dolly, she was on her feet at that point, chin on the floor, pointing at the screen and looking at me as it to say 'do something mum, save her'! Full of Christmas Cheer that one! lol

Must admit Love Actually is one of my favourites, we always end up watching the Home Alone films too, the kids love them
