I'm planning in a trip to Edinburgh for new years. Can anyone recommend any Hotels? Not sure which areas to be staying in. We will be heading to princes street. Thanks.

If you just want somewhere to sleep and central I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Picardy Place which is just 5 minutes walk from Waverley Station (just off Princes Street) which was lovely, clean, very safe and breakfast is included. I've only been to Edinburgh once last year for 2 days in the snow, it's a very compact beautiful city and I imagine it will be fabulous at New Year especially around the castle and Holyrood House is lovely. Have a fabulous time o/
I just went with my daughter and felt comfortable walking around the area at night its in a very well lit area.

I think prices could high and rooms in short supply if you mean over Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) as Edinburgh is very busy because of the street parties in Princes Street.
Maybe someone from Edinburgh could give you advice re chances of getting rooms at that time.

Hello! We are planning Paris for New Year. Apparently I insisted it be a cold Christmas / New Year every other year. Oops. Any tips about what to do on NYE itself? There is a big group of us. Thanks :)

I think that there is a massive party in the city centre itself on the Champs-Elysees and near to the Eiffel tower which has an amazing firework/light display at midnight. You will be in for an amazing experience, I remember someone telling me that they had been and its so magical. Have a fabulous time o/

Aw, thanks Diane :) I think at this rate it will be what we end up going to but I think some of the group were hoping for a restaurant or something. All I have found so far are extortionate. A cruise along the river is an eye watering EUR350 per person! At least the crowds will keep me warm!!!

Not been on this thread for ages, hope you got yourself sorted out Ansbro81. I would have reccommended a hostle as the cheapest option. We're coming down to the big smoke for New Year so we could have done a flat swap but as i've just got this confirmed, may have been a bit short notice. :rolleyes:

Any Londeners out there with tips on tasty affordable places to eat out around the Hemel Hempstead area? We will be heading into the city centre to the Tate modern and Madam Tussauds too so any places that are good around those areas that anyone knows about. Also any good places near the Oval tube station? :thanks:

Have you checked Tripadvisor for restaurants in the areas you mention? Not sure Londoners would consider Hemel part of London but the Greek restaurant gets rave reviews and I intend to try to visit it next time I'm in that area. I've been to Woody's quite a lot but it's variable and you wouldn't really benefit from the canalside location in winter.
