Don't worry. You didn't offend anyone. I think anyone who loved the film would probably understand why others might not be so keen. You can't please everybody.Spanner wrote:i used to cry whenever i saw ian dury and the blockheads on top of the pops as a child, he just plain scared me. (then again so did queen's 'crazy little thing called love' when they has all the legs sticking up through the stage) maybe this left an emotional scar which led to my 'pants' moment. sorry if i caused offence, it wasn't intended, but this just wasn't my bag man.

Re: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
I just wikipedia'd Ian Dury to find out a bit more about him and found this info:
"Dury wrote and performed the theme song "Profoundly in Love with Pandora" for the television series The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Aged 13 3/4 (1985), based on the book of the same name by Sue Townsend, as well as its follow-up, The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole (1987)."
I absolutely loved that song when I was watching every episode of Adrian Mole, I never knew it was by him!

Re: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
We went to see this on Sunday night, travelling up a snow-free A1 to the Odeon, Metro Centre. I parted with hard-earned cash to see this film, and was happy to do so. My husband was (maybe still is - who knows?) a fan of Ian Dury and the Blockheads, and we have his music, books about him etc, so I knew what a dreadfully hard childhood he had had, and what an obnoxious, arrogant, foul-mouthed man he was. Truthfully, he was not a very likeable person, and Andy Serkis did an excellent job in portraying his complex character. I enjoyed the different styles used, including the 70's type videos. My husband thought it was 'magnificent' (faint praise indeed), and I thought it was pretty good too. 8/10 from me.

Re: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
I got tickets to see this, this afternoon via the link Beate kindly provided in Free Films (The Fabulous Picture Show)
The email I received also says:
After the screening, audience members will have the chance to discuss the film with BAFTA-nominated Andy Serkis & Paul Viragh, in a Q & A hosted by journalist Amanda Palmer.
So looking forward to this!...Is anyone else going?

No, but I've been to SROA screenings before. They give you free food and drink (I remember the irony of being fed before "Hunger"), the screening room is quite small so you have to be early as they relentlessly turn people away if they are overbooked. If you want a good seat, stay close to the screening room downstairs beforehand. If you want to sit in the last row you have to ask. They don't like you sitting there as the camera which records the intro and Q&A runs on a line before that row meaning you wouldn't be in any recording, and you might experience difficulty watching the whole Q&A uninterrupted. The whole thing can go on for hours if they need to re-record the intro or whatever. They like you to stay for the bit afterwards (as they want to record a full audience) but won't tie you up if you say you need to leave.

Re: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
Thank you for all the tips Beate
...sounds like it will be an interesting experience...although I do hope it wont go on for too long. I have been for something where it has been filmed for tv: it was a small gig, and the band had to play the same song about four times until they were happy with it...while we pretended to be as excited about it as the 1st time round.
Will write about the experience when I get back (will also try to get there early).
Thank you again Beate ^_^

Well it won't start much before 1pm as you get food then they film the intro, then a 2 hour film followed by a 1 hour Q&A - roughly 4 hours. But you still have to be early or they won't let you in.

Re: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
The man in charge the last couple of times we have been got quite annoyed when people left after the film and before the Q&A! People had to move from the back row to seats nearer the front to fill in the gaps.
If you want to ask questions in the Q & A you can't sit in the rear seats anyway. They will also ask for people to stay behind and record vox pops - where you stand in front of the camera and say what you thought of the film.

However, when I told the woman in charge that I suffered from neck ache and couldn't sit in the front where I would have to crick my neck upwards, she was very helpful and made sure I got the seat I wanted, and I was allowed to stay in it for the entirety of the Q&A.

They would have made you move forward for the Q&A if they had empty seats for the Q&A.Beate wrote:However, when I told the woman in charge that I suffered from neck ache and couldn't sit in the front where I would have to crick my neck upwards, she was very helpful and made sure I got the seat I wanted, and I was allowed to stay in it for the entirety of the Q&A.
They were really desperate to fill those seats the time we had to move!
