Took my mum & DD to see Lord of the Dance - Dangerous Games, last friday. I was mesmerised! Wow! Loved it.

My mum rugby tackled poor yin on the way out, who was working on the door....hope you get pa*d danger money yin?!

Thanks to mandmc10, finally got a ticket to see I Believe in Unicorns this afternoon at the Vaudeville Theatre. Just as I imagined, it is so, so magical and enchanting. But I did not reckon on it being a one woman show, Danyah Miller, is absolutely fantastic as the Unicorn Lady. The story is so beautifully told. The show is interactive with the audience and gets everyone involved, young and old alike. The use of the stage and the props are so imaginative and spellbinding too. I really want to see this again, if I get the chance.

Showstoppers must have an almost unbelievable level of talent the way they improvise (and I suspect at least some of the improv comes from plants in the audience). Even then, not all of it plants, its incredible how they improvise and still find time to make it very funny. Recommended.


McQueen is the polar opposite, a sombre drill through the man's mind on his last day on Earth. Though it s an audiovisual fest, it might be a little too dark and ugly in places, and sometimes drags a bit, but theres a savage beauty to some of the scenes. Watch it only if you are in the mood to stomach its morbid ramblings.

I personally don't think there were any plants in the audience, these performers have been together for years, so must be really in tune with each other. Even so, one of the duets was a bit hit and miss with harmonies.

I do recommend this show, if there are anymore freebies vx

They definitely didn't have any plants in the audience when we saw them a few years ago at the Udderbelly.

They ended up performing a musical number based on the first time we met!

yeah you both said that. But they cant possibly improve everything in the show on the spot and make it such fun. Its just not possible to make stuff up on the spot for 2 hours. I think they MUST have a backbone of a few planted ideas that form the preplanned structure of what they do, which gives them the freedom to improvise more freely and effectively the real improv.

I recognise that of course they have an additional "backbone" of formulaic "flexible" sketches (like the way they march across the background of the stage during the main performance, which can be adapted to anything from dinosaurs to breakdancing).

Freakishly funny though, excellently compered. I think ALL shows should be more like this, instead of sticking to the same performance every day, the actors should be pushed to use their inventiveness, making each performance more unique and more valuable. Well, I would value them more anyway, and I would be more inclined to p*y their prices for something that feels like a unique work.

I think you're wrong there, they have been doing this for a long time and are indeed very good at it. The plots are of course very formulaic (e.g. a romance thwarted which then comes good at the end) but that suits the cheesy nature of many musicals.

I saw them recently through SFF (great fun and not at all too long for me) and also used to watch them record their radio show. Recently I saw an intimate promotional short performance in The Theatre Cafe where there were definitely no plants. Some of the musical styles suggested were quite obscure and they had to confirm the specifics. While the first song could have been predicted from the setting and could have been pre-planned other than the style to be used, I personally provided the name of one of the lead characters. It was 'Jeremy Corbyn' and there was no way that the subject matter shift towards Socialism could have been predicted.

Agreed that there are no plants. I also heard them discuss the show once and if I remember correctly they're all wearing something in their ears to receive instructions too, so someone behind-the-scenes is providing guidance where necessary.
