I will of course have an ice cream or two. I'm so excited

Re: Holiday Thread
Am off to Rome next month...... our hotel is not far from the Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps.
We are there for 4 days, can anyone recommend which major sights to visit and which of those to not bother.
I want to try and get it as much as I can.
Many thanks

Major sights to visit: Go into every restaurant you pass! Or at least that's what I would do

Re: Holiday Thread
You're on a holiday in Italy (and only for a few days at that) I think you can afford experimenting a little bit with the delicious Italian food.
It's SO much better there than anything you'll ever get in an "Italian" restaurant here!

Re: Holiday Thread
The only time I went to Italy was many many years ago (possibly last century...) during a high-school exchange and I mostly ate at the host family but from what I hear the very simple dishes such as a margarita pizza or simple spaghetti are really delicious. And the icre cream of course!

Re: Holiday Thread
I really want to go back to Italy! I'm thinking Venice next year...
I love their 'diet'!
I had REAL thin and crispy freshly made thin italian pizza on the evenings, fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, and only gelato during the day because of the heat.
Needless to say with the all the walking, I lost 4 pounds!
Oh Italia!
Notable places that I went to:
The Vatican(needs to be done purely for this IMO)

Course you have to visit the place where Ewan Mcgregor sets fire to himself in the Davinci Code...

The Collosseum may be slightly obvious.

And as youve mentioned Trevi Fountain.

Oh and restaurant wise....make sure you go to the Hard Rock Cafe Rome.

Re: Holiday Thread
Ah yes, the pizzas are so thin there! Had to use knife and fork and sort of roll the pieces up.

Re: Holiday Thread
Mesa, see my top three in my last post for Rome.
Also, just on the Spanish Steps (on the right hand side if you are looking up at them), there is a Keats museum which is little known (or at least no one I have spoken to has known it was there!) which is worth a visit. It has his death mask, too! http://www.keats-shelley-house.org/
It's a house he lived in when he died and is really rather cool. Quiet small so won't take much time and I seem to recall it was quite cheap.
Remember to throw a coin in the Trevi fountain - it's said you'll be back if you do.
Oh, and there's La Bocca della Verità... the mouth of truth....
