Well I would love to throw my FAT into the ring but I know it isn't the right time for me to start. Since my husband died in January I have found it difficult to adjust to making meals for one and when I make too much instead of it going to waste it goes to Waist. I have had a lot of personal problems this year which has made me comfort eat and I am heavier now than I have ever been in my entire life!!! My blood sugar has gone up and being type 2 diabetic that isn't good news. With the anniversary of my husband's death coming up and going away on holiday in February I know I wouldn't be able to stick to a diet just now and failing would make me more depressed.

However, on a positive note, I know that I eat too many carbs which turn to sugar so I am going to start slowly by cutting down on bread- too many sandwich lunches, also potatoes, rice and pasta and put more veg on my plate instead. I go swimming once a week but will try after my holiday to go swimming twice a week and walk more often. Slow and steady and hopefully a better result than cutting down too much and not sticking to it.

Start your day with porridge Preston as it will keep you fuller all morning when you are doing so much exercise first thing - don't overdo it and make yourself ill. :nono:
Will watch the Musketeers progress and wish you all the best for a healthier 2018. :bighug:

Very healthy meal Clarebarr o/ Well done Preston1990 on completing your spinning class - that takes some stamina. Impressed that you are back at the gym this morning.

Last night at the gym I did 10 minutes on the treadmill on a slight incline, the same on the stepper then 2000m on the rowing machine - in between my shoulder blades were aching doing this due to lack of activity for sooo long. I needing a good stretch afterwards. Just done a 15 minute walk in my lunch - anything is better than nothing. Will report back later on food as need to get back to work (I am in work but can hear a patient outside).

Thanks so much to Ejwrank for being our cheerleader.

Lovely to hear from Biggins and sorry to hear that you are not in the right place at the moment but it will take me months to get to my target weight so if you are in a better place in a few months would love to have you on board.
Good choices re cutting down on bread etc - I have sandwiches nearly every day for lunch at work.

Today I have had shredded wheat, beef sandwich, yoghurt, 2 clementines, a banana and a cheese and onion quiche with a large salad. Need to up my water intake. I have had a headache since just after lunch probably due to the sudden decrease in calories and dehydration. The first few days I always find hard work.

So sorry to hear of your sad news Biggins :( My sincerest condolences.

To echo what Diane has already said.... Maybe when you get back from your holiday you'll feel more like joining us - We'd really love to have you on-board. It sounds like you've already taken some positive action by planning to modify your diet and exercise routine o/

Thanks also for the sensible Breakfast tips - I'm going to make a start with the porridge from tomorrow!

Well done for the gym session workout Diane and the sensible eating regime. Try and drink your way out of those headaches (JUST PLAIN WATER THOUGH NOT THE CARBONATED STUFF - check out Mike Moseleys TV show mentioned below). I bet that weight is just falling off you as we speak. We are both going to be so happy next weighday!! o/

My yesterday's Aquafit session seemed much tougher than I ever remember it being before when I was a regular. A real testament to how quickly fitness and stamina levels can drop off when you stop exercising - a kind of a "use it or lose it" scenario. I'm determined though that I'll get back to where I was eventually.

This morning's 7:30 spinning class was another testing and difficult session for me - I was almost convinced that my watch had stopped because the time went by so slowly! Eventually after inwardly praying for all the nastiness to stop, it did come to an end and I retreated to collapse for a rest in the sauna.

I've another spinning class booked for 17:15 this afternoon and one for tomorrow morning. I do hope that the effort I'm expending will kickstart a decent weightloss for me this week. Anyhow, we'll see! :D

I watched a couple of interesting TV programs about health/weightloss on the iPlayer catchup thing last night. I can't remember the exact titles but one had that Doctor Michael Moseley in it. The other one had Tom Kerridge (The Chef) designing reduced calorie (but tasty) food for a group of people on a weight reducing programme. Might be worth a watch if anyone is interested.

Anyway.......better get my kit in the wash for this afternoons spin! ;)

AFO & OFA ! :D (answers on a postcard please ;) )

Preston. :D

Well done, Diane and Preston, with these impressive exercise starts. Can I just say to Preston, don't overdo it all at the start. Might be better to build up slowly but surely -- you don't want to spin yourself out -- but that's just me talking so don't take any notice! And happy to hear from ClareBarr -- good on the healthy eating front plus clearing out the fridge which always gives me a sense of achievement!

Biggins, I feel for you and think that taking the steps of cutting down carbs, swimming and adjusting your diet are all a lot to take on and think you have been remarkable in managing to make a start after your bereavement. You know that I also lost my husband in 2017 and know all the upheaval our lives have had to cope with. I wish you well and hope your holiday will be happy.

So it's All for One and One for All!

Wow Preston1990 doing 2 spin classes in a day 8O How have you got on?

I had the same breakfast and lunch as yesterday. I used to eat breakfast at 6.30am but Asamaic suggested eating at work which is a brilliant idea. I leave at 7am to avoid traffic so arrive at work at 7.30am so have my breakfast before I start work at 8am. I was ravenous by 10.30 eating so early but this makes a massive difference. I had chicken stroganoff using creme fraiche for dinner with a jacket potato plus fresh orange juice.
I have been batch cooking this evening I have made 6 portions of carrot and coriander soup and the same of bolognese so can freeze them so have something quick when having a mad day.

Tomorrow I won't get home from work until gone 6.30pm so DD will have my dinner on the table (one of the bologneses) so can still fit in a gym session before bed time. I promise that I will drink more (start to drink) more water.

How are you getting on Clarebarr? Thanks to the lovely ejwrank for your support o/

I am going here http://gustorestaurants.uk.com/restaurant/didsbury/ for dinner on Sunday so please help me choose the healthiest meal. It's 50% off food in January :D

Checking in before Diane tracks me down. ;)

Feeling very sore after a day volunteering in a warehouse - I have another one coming up tomorrow. Am hopeful that I'll be able to walk tomorrow because we really need the people! It's the close down after all the temporary shelters have finished for Christmas - there is so much stuff to get shifted.

I'm also supposed to be running on Saturday morning. Come the end of January, I should have run 50 parkruns - that's 250km!

It's amazing really, I can do all this physical activity and yet am getting progressively fatter and fatter. I often wonder if I'm secretly very fit and if only I was lighter, I'd be able to run really quickly and that it's the weight slowing me down rather than my fitness level at this point...

I need to get back to eating healthily. Once I get through the next few days, I'll give my battle plan for 2018 some thought!

Dian, if you fancy a starter, I think I would go for the sundried tomatoes, prosciutto or spiced butternut squash soup.

I don't eat tuna, but I reckon the seared lemon and pepper tuna steak is probably one of the better choices on the menu. I would probably go for the crab, chilli and garlic spaghetti or sea bass though.

Dessert-wise, lemon sorbet. If you want a 'real' pudding, tiramisu is usually much better than you think, calorie-wise.

Am I that bad stalkering (I don't think that is an actually word) people?

Welcome back Asamaic you must be shattered with all that physical work. You are slim already as I recall from Leeds. Wow wow wow re the park runs that takes some doing. I am almost embarrassed to say that I don't do seafood after you have chosen a healthy meal for me  the starters sound good. o/ I might actually skip the pudding as I am going out for a meal the following Sunday and have my heart set on the jam roly poly and custard.

I have had the same breakfast and lunch as the last 2 days but having Bolognese for dinner then doing the same at the gym as Tuesday this evening. Tomorrow I will be taking down the Christmas decorations so plenty of exercise going up and down in the loft - I did a lot of decorations including outside lights. Will probably take me all day with cleaning everywhere after. I love having them all up so will be sad tomorrow.

How is everyone else getting on?

I need to check out those programmes Preston1990. On a separate note I cannot see your Ticker Tracker ;)

How about....Bruschetta (as a starter) followed by Caesar Salad (with/without Chicken) as a main.

No desert though :nono: You are supposed to be on a diet - :wall: You'll be talking about Jam Roly Poly next!

Oops, Good point - give me a minute and I'll sort it ;)

I'm back to the exercise stuff now, but my actual diet is still not great at the minute. Whilst I did heed Biggins's porridge for breakfast advice today, I also b*ght and ate a salted caramel desert cakey thing today. On the more positive side though, I have stocked up with loads of virtuous salady stuff.

Can I just say Preston1990 it's a bit rich your cruel jibes over my jam roly poly when only 4 days in and you have already devoured a salted caramel desert cakey thing!!! 8O Pot, kettle and black spring to mind

Last night was a bit of a time management challenge. I got in from work just before 7 so was 7.30pm before I finished my bolognese (I was hungry but not ravenous as had had a banana at 4pm but needed food before I went to the gym) but realised that Manchester United were at home and my gym is around the corner from the ground so if timings are wrong can take an hour too get home. I left it an hour after eating but felt a bit stuffed when I was squashing my stomach on the rowing machine - I hadn't got the luxury of a few minutes between machines but finished 10 minutes before the end of the match :D If I hadn't vowed on here to go I would have given it a miss.

Today's menu:
Porridge
Roasted garlic and marrow soup with Heinz croutons (only 19p in Home Bargains). Having croutons instead of bread as likely to eat less and the marrow was given to me last year so I made a batch of this soup and froze loads of it. http://souper-woman.com/2013/09/03/marr ... rlic-soup/ it is delicious and filling.
Sausage and mash with garden peas.
Passion fruit yoghurt.

Have a fun day everyone and keep posting.

How are today Clarebarr not heard from you since Tuesday?
