TV Series: Discuss, Review, Anticipate, and Wotnot

Has anyone seen the new Dirk Gently? I am downloading it, wondering if its worth it. The Gently novels are awesomely crazy, but Steven Mangan isnt at all how I imagined Svlad Cjelli to look like.

I caught the first two episodes and thoroughly enjoyed them.
A bit quirky and humourous which was I found quite charming.

Didn't realise they were based on novels...
Might give them a go now...

Any Game Of Thrones fans here? I've a bit of an obsession with the books/TV and now Graphic novel

I watched the first episode of the TV series and it seemed good but I didn't really get into it, mainly because I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the characters/felt like entering the middle of a story. I'm now reading the book and absolutely loving it so looking forward to giving the TV series another go when I'm done as I'm sure I'll love it. Great, great story! Didn't realise there was a graphic novel as well.

The first volume of the graphic novel has just come out,doesn't even cover the first book. Hope you enjoy the books,I'm currently on the 4th and they are huge. I can see what you mean about so many characters,the world created in the books is huge and it's hard to keep up with so many people but once you get past the first book everyone will become quite clear. There are plenty of maps and family tree's online if you'd like me to share the links?Some contain spoilers for future books though so when you are ready

Ah thanks, it's ok though. I find the Appendices quite useful and found some maps online to keep my head straight. Although it was a bit overwhleming at first by midway through the book I got used to it and had a good understanding of what was going on. Going to start the TV series (again) on my train jounrey tomorrow and also start the second book. My only ciriticism of the first book

[spoiler]Not having any feeling of conclusion and even after 800 pages Dany's story is still separate (and if anything even more separate now her brother and Drago are dead) to the main narrative. But I really really liked it and can't wait to explore the story as a TV series.[/spoiler]

I've just finished the 10 episodes of the first season of Game of Thrones after noticing that they were back on sky anytime. Not usually my type of thing but after sticking with it, I am now hooked!

I agree with David, it does seem very overwhelming at the beginning, so many characters and I also agree that the world that has been created seems huge. I'm in awe of the imagination it takes to create something like that. I do think it is probably helpful if you have read the books before watching the series as there is so much background story but things have become clearer as the series goes on. The TV series seems very well made and I'm assuming that it is true to the books - not sure if that is considered the case.

Will try to catch the first episode of season 2 at some point this weekend so I'm up to date with it all.

I've missed Game of Thrones Season 2, episode 1. It is repeated tonight but due to other recording commitments, I can't watch everything, and someone else is kicking up a fuss about how many programmes I can keep track of.........
Can someone tell me whether I can watch it free online somehow? Any advice on how to do this will be appreciated, thanks. (I've set series-record for the rest of the episodes)

Its showing in sky anytime, which you can view from your sky+ box if you have one, says last chance so not sure how long it will be there as new episode tomorrow, but you can watch it anytime. If you dont have sky anytime its also in sky go if you have an sky account you can watch online.

Sounds like my recording, always getting clashes as I'm trying to keep up with so many shows at once.

thats right, and in sky go you can still get it for another 24 days (provided Sky Go actually works of course ha).

Well, I started Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. I am not really convinced that Stephen Mangan is Dirk, and less so by the unecessary McDuff,but they gives it a good go.

There were som killer lines amongst the middling show - 'Well, you're looking very healthy, Mrs Edwards, for a woman who is dead. (She collapses unexpectedly dead from a wound inher back).....she must have thought I was being really sarcastic!' (they scarper).

If it can keep that kind of frantic fun up then I am all for a 2nd series, but on current form there are too many fillers.

Yes I've seen the first 3 episodes so far and it is very loyal to the books and where it does stray ever so slightly you can understand why and I actually enjoy those bits as it adds something.

I've adopted recording the reruns at 1am to try to balance it all! I'm a huge scifi/fantasy fan and loved the books, and I've really enjoyed seeing the world come to life on the screen.
