Ah thanks, that'd be nice. I don't mind crime novels (I am a huge fan of Nicci French's somewhat disturbing thrillers).Mesa7719 wrote:Yeah I've donated to Charity before, but thought I'd try something different.
You can donate books to just about every charity shop in your area or advertise on your local freecycle group.
Alternatively, I am an avid reader myself and if you don't live too far away from me in East London, I wouldn't mind having a few if they are easy chick lit reads by any chance.
I am venturing up in the loft at the weekend, so I will take stock of exactly what I have. I believe there may be a few chick lit ones yes, others are more underground gangsteryfied like Martina Cole etc. I'll DM you once I've take an look :-)

Free book
Telegraph readers can claim a free copy of 12 Years a Slave from Tesco Express stores nationwide, with the newspaper on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
To celebrate the release of the award-winning film, 12 Years a Slave, the Telegraph has teamed up with Penguin and Entertainment One UK to offer readers a free copy of the book, by Solmon Northup.
Solomon Northup is a free man, living in New York when he is kidnapped and sold into slavery. Drugged, beaten, given a new name and transported away from his wife and children to a Louisiana cotton plantation, Solomon will die if he reveals his true identity. This is the searing true story of his twelve years as a slave: the endless brutality, daily humiliations and constant fear, but also the small ways in which he and his fellow men try to survive.
12 Years a Slave is a unique, unflinching record of slavery from the inside, and the incredible account of one man whose life was ripped from him - and who fought to get it back. The critically acclaimed film, in cinemas now, stars Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Chiwetel Ejiofor and is the winner of a Golden Globe for best motion picture.

Re: The Book thread
Question, I have about 100 books I'd like to clear out (all new or as good as new, a mix of paperbacks/hardbacks, literary fiction/women's fiction/crime/YA, published in the last few years), what would be the best way to go about?
eBay is too daunting (SO many ads to write!) and I doubt really worth the effort in the end as people would also have to p*y for shipping and then don't want to p*y anything for the book(s) themselves. Have considered selling to a second-hand bookshop but they're of course more after antiques, unless anyone has a good experience with one in London?
Have considered donating to charity shops and library but would kind of like to get *something* for them as there are so many and in excellent condition (and I could use the money...)
Or if anyone near me (London) is interested in swapping a bunch for vouchers (cinema or otherwise) or something else, do let me know and I can give you more details on titles etc!

You could try www.greenmetropolis.com (though I hardly sold anything with them) or
http://sellerhelp.abebooks.co.uk/2009/1 ... -sell.html
I have no experience with the latter and of course they have fees as well.

Got my brand new (library) copy of "Reckless", the latest William Nicholson yesterday - publication day - and am really looking forward to reading it. Must try not to devour it too fast but his novels are usually unputdownable for me.

Re: The Book thread
I've just read and reviewed the rewrite of David Moody's harrowing debut novel, 'Straight to You'.
Set at the end of the world, 'Straight to You' sees one man re-evaluate what is truly important in his own life.

I've been re-reading John Green's The Fault in Our Stars in anticipation of the June 6th film release.
Absolutely one of, if not my absolute, favourite books. I rarely re-read, but decided to with TFiOS and I can confirm it is still just as gut-wrenchingly powerful the second time round.
I highly recommend it.

Free Book
Pick up your free copy of The Monuments Men in cinemas now, from Tesco Express stores nationwide, with the newspaper on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
To celebrate the release of the award-winning film, The Monuments Men, the Telegraph has teamed up with Arrow, A Penguin Random House company and Twentieth Century Fox to offer readers a free copy of the book, by Robert M. Edsel.
Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners.
It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1,000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
The Monuments Men is now a major film in cinemas now, and is directed by George Clooney, co-starring Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett.
