Ahahahahaha. You know I'd join you in saying that in my colourful language.ejwrank wrote:Haymarket is a rubbish cinema -- at least the ones in the basement are. There were mice and why do people come in late and then insist on sitting together? Why do people move to accommodate them? Why don't they say "just sit down and shut up because no one can see because of your idiocy" -- oh yes some people like me did say that.

My Sky reps often check the names on the printout's against a list and tick them off. Even so, when the rep goes home, they submit the bar code ID number when they complete their computer report to Sky.Jayman wrote:But it's not like they scan them or anything before allowing you entry.

Re: Shame
Yet again, I had to stop reading a specific film discussion thread because people aren't using the spoiler option when talking about specific parts in a film.
When this was happening, Shame hadn't even had all it's preview screenings and isn't in the cinema until January.
Please, please, please can I ask people to show some consideration when discussing a film and either make non specific comments or use the spoiler button.
Thank you
As for me and my thoughts on the film, I thought this was excellent. It didn't require there to be a back story behind the leading characters. They are emotionally detached and that detachment showed itself in many ways. We can guess what the causes were from how they behave but I honestly don't think it hindered the film in not explaining the whys and wherefores.
None of the scenes mentioned earlier, including the nightclub scene seemed overly long to me. I was totally engrossed in the film.
Both Fassbender and Mulligan were fabulous in their parts imo I am vry glad to see that Fass is getting nominations for this role, deservedly so.
Because he is emotionally retarded. He can only have cold detached sex, not a loving emotional sexual experience. Which is why he employs the services of prostitutes.
99h13 wrote:Well what can I say apart from just repeating all your comments!
I no its about his sex addiction but at the end of the film I really didnt see what the film was about or was it just not finished?
Why did he stop from going all the way with the lady from work?
I have loads of unanswered questions but at the end of the day Im not that bothered because I feel there was no actual point to the film!?!

Re: Shame
Only my interpretation, but he was about to have meaningful sex with someone he quite clearly cared about in some manner, and he felt it was too overwhelming to do sober.Jayman wrote:Any ideas why he needed to take a coke shot in that one scene? He didn't strike me as a drug addict.

Re: Shame
I thought that was a little odd too, as we hadn't seen evidence of any further drug use. All I could think was that he needed courage as it wasn't his usual kind of sexual encounter. That or else his Shame was getting worse and he needed a bigger hit.Jayman wrote:Any ideas why he needed to take a coke shot in that one scene? He didn't strike me as a drug addict.
Don't addicts of all kinds need more ways to "enjoy" their addiction as they get used to it?

Re: Shame
I think Ethan might actually be right. He might've been too overwhelmed, though keeping a line of coke handy feels sorta premeditated, like he knew he knew well beforehand his encounter would pose a psychological obstacle. Where did he even get it from?
I must say, I
cringed when he threw his laptop in the trash. Hadn't he heard of the "format" command? Obviously not, as he didn't even know how to clear his browser history from his work PC. What was his occupation anyway? Was he a banker? He couldn't have been all too smart if he was surfing p0rn on his work PC. He should've been doing all of that nonsense on his iPhone4, dammit!
