I'll keep this short cos I don't want to waste much more time on this.
I thought it was a dull mess, at times almost amateurishly put together. Some of multiple dissolves and split screens reminded me of when I was at college and we hadn't shot enough footage to finish our short film so we desperately tried to cut our way out of trouble. I wonder if there's a 2-3 hour version out there somewhere that had to be hacked by the studio or was it just designed that way. The voiceover had that feeling as well at times "he walked into a room and this is what he was thinking..."
The actors were ok and maybe with a little more intrigue or plot or mystery at the start I might have cared when all the supposedly shocking stuff started.
Killer Joe has been mentioned and I also thought of the recent Bad Lieutenant
especially with the alligator cutaway during Kidman's and Cusack's sex scene
and whilst I thought both of those were flawed at the time they seem like masterpieces at the moment.

Great movie. Great performances. Slightly disturbing and dark movie but engrossing and engaging nonetheless. I would recommend.

Re: The Paperboy
Saw this at Harbourlights Picturehouse. I'm surprised that I didn't completely hate this given the vitriol. There was actually quite a bit of humour in the midst of the film and the audience I was in were pretty receptive to this on the day, thank the movie gods.
If I was a card carrying member of PETA I would have been far more offended by the scenes depicted than by the minute and a half of fully clothed sex which I'm sure was not designed with titillation in mind. I've seen 12As more graphic than this.
I've made a mental note never to call any future sons Hillary just in case it leads to psychological problems, nay full blown psychosis; the John Cusack of Sixteen Candles is nowhere to be seen. I liked that all the actors played against type for this film and I have almost forgiven Matthew McConaughey for The Wedding Planner as he went through a lot for this role.
I've seen worse this year so 7/10
