8 out of 10 for this film, very good, worth the trip to see this film.
Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Just back from seeing this. It was magnificent. Despite running time of nearly 2 1/2 hrs, it flew past & left me wanting more of all the leads...all were excellent. Previously not convinced by bradley cooper, but I am a convert.
Only one downer, the lighting was very, very dark. I don't know if this was because the cinema projected it wrong, or that was the way it was supposed to be, but I found the low light levels distracting.
Long time since I have been to my local cineworld on a friday night...it was packed full, mainly with student-types. Is friday night "student discount night"?
overall, 8.5 / 10 (would up that to 9.5 if not so darkly shot)

I thought this was a good film. It didn't feel too long to me, it seemed to go pretty quick actually. Bradley Cooper has grown on me in the last two films I've seen him in. 8/10

Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Watched this with my last free Independent cinema voucher tonight.
I hadn't read any reviews so was a bit surprised by the film and the three element/part story.
It was a bit slow for my liking but very well acted and it did feel really believable.

Very much a film of two halves for me. The first hour or so held my interest and curiosity but after that I kept dozing off. Too drawn out and overlong and a film that I felt was trying too hard to credibly finish what it started without too much success. Worth a watch but could certainly have been pruned by half an hour and made all the better for it.

I went to see this last weekend and flipping LOVED it! I wasn't expecting such a short amount of shared screen time between Gosling and Cooper though - that was kind of disappointing. However it was still such a great film and I can't wait to see it again.

Glad you liked it so much, aruif (and nice to see you back, even if fleetingly). I've only just seen this film as I was somehow not in the mood for such a long and serious session, and I can't say I actually enjoyed it, so should perhaps have trusted my instinct and simply given it a miss. I'm not saying it's not well-made, but I found the structure hugely clunky and few of the characters - certainly not the main ones - to be at all sympathetic. Still, at least I had the entire auditorium for myself and saw at minimal cost with Nectar points, but boy was I glad to get back out into the sunshine and to head off to a light-hearted matinee at the theatre!

Missed out on the free screenings for this so went to see it yesterday - the cinema was packed!
I enjoyed the film, it was a bit heavy going at times but I enjoyed the story line and thought the performances were very good. I would have to agree with previous comments that it was a bit too long and that the last section was weaker than the others though.

Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
I really liked this film in particular the 3 story telling. The length was a touch too long as others have mentioned and performances were very good all round. A well deserved 8.5/10.
