Re: World War Z
Went to see this on 10th July, really enjoyed it. It was a refreshing to see a film without a definitive end.

blazed wrote:Awesome movie to be honest, very entertaining and suspenseful, definately one of the better zombie movies out there 7.5/10
Negatives points:
-Scenes were too dark on aircraft refuelling scene couldn't tell who was zombie or soldier or if there was even a scene set behind all that dark lighting.
-Could have play more on the horror factor (like 28 days later or dawn of the dead), this was not scary at all and played out like a thriller instead.
-Wasn't keen on the Camouflage idea, this 6th sense to detect healthy host crap... So let me get this right... Zombies can detect a healthy presence while they can't detect an unhealthy presence, yet in the movie they were dodging zombies by staying quiet and unseen, why couldn't the zombies just feel their healthy presence?
Animals can detect illnesses. Cancer and suchlike so it made sense to me that a Zombie wouldn't be interested in snacking on a diseased being.

That post I made is a little old but seeing as you completely missed my point let me elaborate. The Sparrow wrote:Animals can detect illnesses. Cancer and suchlike so it made sense to me that a Zombie wouldn't be interested in snacking on a diseased being.
Most scientists believe animals can detect illnesses such as cancer through the means of smell, that's why they train dogs in the form of smell to assists with such detection.
The zombie at the end also took a nice bit of sniff from Brad Pitt, so it's suggested the zombie has a strong ability of smell and can detect the scent that a dog would.
Now I'm pretty sure that a human's natural scent is higher than the chemically released scent from that small area of cancer, I mean even us humans can smell Body Odours from across the room.
These zombies had the ability to: See, Hear, and SMELL humans.
Yet they were walking past the zombies, balls deep just by crawling, let's see you avoid a Dog like a German Shepard or Doberman's with sight and sound alone... those dogs would be exactly on the other side of the fence waiting for you to jump over

These zombies are idle... they have nothing to do... they are just standing as detectors, with an instant urge to kill any living being. The fact that they don't react to their strong ability of smell is a plot hole.
Plot hole... is a Plot hole...

That entire aspect of the film actually made perfect sense to me. I thought it was unique and made it not just another zombie movie.blazed wrote:That post I made is a little old but seeing as you completely missed my point let me elaborate. The Sparrow wrote:Animals can detect illnesses. I was under the impression that their urge was to spread the infection they were carrying (rather than simply kill) and that was the reason they avoided diseased humans...blazed wrote:These zombies are idle... they have nothing to do... they are just standing as detectors, with an instant urge to kill any living being. Re: World War Z
Kill/infect same thing... the person is dead anyway... but yes the movie did state clearly that the infection wanted to spread across but did not want to infect ill hosts, still doesn't justify why the zombies don't use their strong ability of smell (or six sense if it's that) detection to spread along healthy hosts walking about in the area considering how much excited they get when they see one.RAZORBACK wrote:I was under the impression that their urge was to spread the infection they were carrying (rather than simply kill) and that was the reason they avoided diseased humans...blazed wrote:These zombies are idle... they have nothing to do... they are just standing as detectors, with an instant urge to kill any living being. Re: World War Z
Because they weren't healthy.
Obviously something was wrong with the soldier, the kid, and the old man, and Brad was infected with a serious disease when bringing the vials back. The vaccine masks health and presents as unhealthy to the zombies. Just like a flu shot means you're being injected with the flu.
blazed wrote:Kill/infect same thing... the person is dead anyway... but yes the movie did state clearly that the infection wanted to spread across but did not want to infect ill hosts, still doesn't justify why the zombies don't use their strong ability of smell (or six sense if it's that) detection to spread along healthy hosts walking about in the area considering how much excited they get when they see one.RAZORBACK wrote:I was under the impression that their urge was to spread the infection they were carrying (rather than simply kill) and that was the reason they avoided diseased humans...blazed wrote:These zombies are idle... they have nothing to do... they are just standing as detectors, with an instant urge to kill any living being. Re: World War Z
But kill/infect isn't the same thing in this genre, for example George Romero's zombies were actually dead but Danny Boyle's were just infected.blazed wrote:Kill/infect same thing... the person is dead anyway... but yes the movie did state clearly that the infection wanted to spread across but did not want to infect ill hosts, still doesn't justify why the zombies don't use their strong ability of smell (or six sense if it's that) detection to spread along healthy hosts walking about in the area considering how much excited they get when they see one.
For me, WWZ's zombies were closer to DB's zombies than GR's zombies therefore the avoiding potential (living) hosts that were sick made sense. If WWZ's zombies were meant to be of the GR variety then diseased or not it wouldn't make a difference because as soon as the host became infected they'd also be undead therefore any normal human disease wouldn't have an impact on their ability to spread the infection further...
