We didn't have trailers at Greenwich except a little advert to switch our phones off. Started slightly after 6.30pm and I was actually grateful as I popped back down to get a waffle with ice cream. There were security guards at the doors and they were checking to make sure we switched our phones off. They kept coming into the screening to make sure we didn't switch them back on.

I felt it was pretty empty at Greenwich, only about 80% full which I was quite suprised by considering the number of codes available but considering that the Times showing was tonight, I guess people went to those instead. Loads of late commers though (and the usual rude people who think they own the cinema).

I agree with blackmidnight, the film was abit too long. I found it abit repititive and it could have been made so much shorter. There was some really good scenes with humour though. And it had a nice sweet ending. I think I'll rate this 7/10.

Not looking forward to Bruno tomorrow..... Hope West India Quay is not going to be packed out!

hottips wrote:Saw this at Greenwich Odeon - I think that this may have been where Blackmidnight was. The cinema was about 95% full. (They seem to have gotten into the habit at Greenwich of moving people up so that seats are left at the end - the side away from the entrance that is and then they do not it people to that side).

I was really disappointed with this film - I had been looking forward to it. It was too long and too slow. 5/10 .
LOL was it 95% full hottips? I swear I saw so many seats free in between. I was abit bored in between the film and started counting the empty seats and with all the one seaters left in between it looked like 80% full! Must be bad calculation from moi! :undecided:

Does blackmidnight not live in Liverpool? :|

This was a good costume drama! The attention to detail regarding 1930s clothes, cars, and other assorted artefacts was terrific. I loved the telephone exchange!

Johnny Depp was good in the role of John Dillinger, and Christian Bale put in a fine performance too. The supporting actors and actresses did a reasonable job, giving creitable performances.
It was fairly formulaic. We knew what we were getting. It was a gangster movie, with guns and lots of blood. We got it.
John Dillinger was a real person, a real criminal, and a real bad lot. Depp portrayed him as rather a nice chap, which he was not.
I'm not sure how this film will fare on general release. It does not have wide general appeal, but I have enjoyed my evening out with my friend, and I will recommend this film to other people.

7/10 from me.

Oh and I loved the music in it, the background music as well as the music from the entertainment venues they visited :)

Lol, yes I was at the Liverpool screening not Greenwich! Also had ushers who told us to fill up from the middle and to not leave gaps.

Going to get there early tomorrow for Bruno as I have a feeling it will be either really really busy or half empty!

Really surprised at the rating this has got on IMDb at the moment - 9.1/10! and with nearly 2000 votes

I'm generally not into gangster movies. The only reason I was keen on this one was because Johnny stars in it :p

I saw this in Islington. Most of the people who were going in had the newspaper cutting with them but then the guy who was taking in all the emails+cutting let some people in without and he had to come into the theatre to ask for them!!

The cinema was almost full with just a few empty seats. Contrary to other FMUKers who wrote reviews, I didn't feel the film was too long. In fact, when I checked the time afterwards, I got a shock!!!

I enjoyed this more than I thought (but then it's probably because I'm biased  ) and like anjirose I liked the soundtrack too.

8/10

Just been to see this at the Printworks only about 70% full.
I agree with everyone else good film just a little too long.
I'm totally with anjirose and Andrews loved the background music and clothes.
I'd give it 7/10

I was at tonight's screening at Braehead and enjoyed the film. I had no idea of the running time but didn't feel that it was too long unlike other posters. Agree with others that the soundtrack was pretty good. How quaint to have the criminals wearing overcoats and hats. Would I have gone to see this if I didn't get free ticket? Probably not, but personally think I would have missed out on a great film. I would recommend it and score it 8/10. Thanks again to Pete York for my ticket.

Well I am going to the Vue Islington again! When they decided to let us in, there were two people so two queues to speed things up, and the guy who took our ticket printout seemed a bit overwhelmed so I got away without the newspaper cutout - I reckon I could have given him an empty sheet! We were stopped in front of the screen by a row of bouncers, I mean ushers, but they were rather like bouncers to be honest, making sure that everyone had switched off their phone etc. They were really strict with that, I saw somene standing over a woman in a lower row until she had switched it off. To be honest, I would love that to happen every time, makes for a nice and quiet screening! The guy who had to come in and collect the rest of the newspaper cutouts was hilarious, he then asked people for ten quid! :giggle: I had the electronic page from the paper but didn't bother giving him that, LOL. OH said one of the ushers sat at the very right end of the back row watching the film and probably the audience too. The screen was pretty full up with exception of the first two rows. Had to fight to keep two seats free for phunkygal!

Now, the film. Not as good as I thought. Johnny Depp was good, but it was never really explained why he went into bankrobbing, it was very bloody and there were so many shootings I felt someone might have an epileptic fit from all the gunfire! And at the end all the bad guys were dead which was rather expected and could have been done in less time, but of course we did have to know in length what movie they were going to see at the end. Was a bit shocked though how that policeman beat the girlfriend up in the custody room! And I thought, heck, if that is a 3 dollar dress, I want one!!! Also, if Dillinger went into the policestation unseen to have a look around, how do we know about it? Is that poetic licence or an urban legend about Dillinger?

6.5/10
