The Taking Of Pelham 123
Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
Saw this at Wimbledon yesterday. The screening was only 60% full to begin with but there were several late comers so around 75% full at the end. I haven't seen the original so can't compare but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tension was built up well and it was gripping throughout. It also reminded me of 24! Travolta and Washington were brilliant in their respective roles. Definitely well worth a watch. 8/10

Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
I managed to convince my manager to let me leave an hour early eventhough short staff lolz
so I watched this with my friends yesterday at Covent Garden....(Gosh that cinema is small - 4 screens?!)
We sat in the Premier seats in the middle
then two other friends came late so I couldn't hog the two seats next to me anymore.....anyways I think I read the reviews by fellow FMUKers and expected a bit too much.....I didn't enjoy the film much
eeKz....I did think JT character was funny and weird but I just expected more....just kept waiting for something like WOOOO...oh wells.....I'll give it 6.4/10 lolz....at least I had japanese afterwards that made my evening
P.S. to the lady sitting behind me and my friends...you laughed and clapped your hands in one scene that wasn't really funny but I thought you were funny
teehee

Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
I guess everyone's written about the film, so there's not much to add, but I thought the music accompanying the film was way tooooo loud and awful. I don't know why, but I kept thinking of Denzel's other film The Inside Man and I much prefered that film and I agree with most people that the ending was too contrived just to give Denzel an excuse to run around town (again).... 6.5 out of 10 for me!
Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
i was at wimbledon too and a load of people (around 20)turned up out of nowhere 10 mins into the film very off putting as they insist on wanting to sit at the back and ask if there are spaces instead of sitting at the front where they can see there are gaps????
i haven;t see the origional but i did enjoy this but i can help feeling cheated a little at the end, but being a remake they have to keep to the origional.
I expected DW to go home with his milk and find a load of money from JT waiting for him or JT would fall off the bridge and we would see him on a tropical beach somewhere.

Not sure but this may have been because loads of people originally went into screen 6 instead of the required screen 8!
I do agree that it is a pain when latecomers then start whinging about where they want to sit - its not difficult, come early and you can choose your seats. Maybe if the cinema attendants actually told them where they have to sit it would help instead of just letting them walk in late and disturb everyone else.

I thought the characters for Denzel and John were pretty good but I found the overrall plot abit boring. Glad to see it wasn't a really long movie though (like Public Enemies!). A 7/10 for me.

Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
I saw this at Surrey Quays - the security guard they have there is such character, he is one member of staff who seems to be an integral part of that cinema. I think people would miss him - or at least notice if he ever left.
Cinema wasn't totally packed which was a surprise. Thought there would be more of turn out for this.
I really liked it - thought Denzel and Travolta in particular were really good. Considering that the plot is a bit thin, it totally relies on the interaction between the two main characters and I think they made it work well. Kept my attention but I was a bit disappointed with the ending. Not sure how it should have turned out though...
A solid 8/10 for me - want to try and catch the original too.

Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
I was at Surrey Quays as well and must agree that the security guard was the funniest thing that evening.
The movie was okay, however I expected more. The ending for me was a huge let down as I can't believe that DW character would go that way. Film overall was okay, 6/10. Car chases were nauseating....

Re: The Taking of Pelham 123
It's taken me a while to get around to posting a review on this one.
Not half bad with a couple of nice twists although JT is no match for Robert Shaw from the original. Mr Shaw was far more sinsiter
I'm gonna give this a 7/10 cause I'm in a suprisingly good mood for a Monday

Missed the preview but still thought i'd go watch it. Brought back memories of the NYC subway, (not getting lost on it this time lol!) Quite enjoyed JT as the "bad guy". Bit too psychotic at times but still made me laugh, which a lot of action films have failed to do. 7/10
