Re: Julie and Julia
Just back from Vue Romford, at about 6:40 we had got to the Casting Director's name in the credits after 2 projector shut downs, by 6:45 there was a third and I gave up, second time in the last few days a Romford Vue free screening has had annoying and stupid errors, I like the cinema, people know me there, but it's too much.

Well, went to see it at Middlesbrough yesterday and the film was spoilt due to projection problems... had about 5 / 10 mins of looking at the floor and peoples' feet after the projector was moved mid way through the film. Then when someone complained they over-compensated and we had half the film looking at the ceiling and lots of dodgy mics appearing in shot(!)hodsey77 wrote:People are putting my mind at rest - I wasn't thinking this was going to be good, but the comments above are making me think it's definitely worth-while going to see :)
Will let you know in a bit :) Showing it in an hour
Really spoiled it as you couldn't stop looking at the mics, and it took away the illusion of the film being real.
Otherwise, I thought it did drag in a couple of places and although only 2 hours long, it felt a lot longer...
Not a bad film, but definitely spoilt by the stupid projectionist

Saw this at Brighton last night, overall really enjoyed it. Love Meryl. Am tall myself, so that side of things made me laugh! Also thought it felt a little long in places and the theatre was sooo hot. But all in all, a good one :)

I have just googled Meryl Streep to find that she is only 5 ft 6 inches tall, so it was a case of camera trickery. Clever, wasn't it?Spanner wrote: i didn't think meryl streep was a giant though, is she in real life? i did spot one bit when she was lunching with friends and she was sat on a chair that was far higher than the others round the table so maybe there was a bit of camera trickery going on.
I absolutely loved this film. I want to be called Delia from now on, no wait a minute... Nigella, the Domestic Goddess. Yes, that'll do. if I'm not on here as often, you'll have to read my blog. The one where I cook all of Nigella's recipes, and don't put on any weight in the process. Oh no, someone's already done that!
8/10 from me.

Re: Julie and Julia
Not only don't they check ID at Vue Islington, they don't even know that your printout is the ticket, and try to send you over to the counter first to exchange for "real tickets". Then they tell you three times it has no trailers, yes thanks, I know that!
Was a fairly small screen but got quite full with an annoying amount of people turning up late and some blind bat of a bloke nearly sitting on me! I glared at him but my friend and tufty just found it hilarious and tittered for a good 5 minutes, LOL.
I loved the film, but, as others have said, the Julia Child story was so much more interesting and funny, with Meryl Streep in top form, I could have watched a whole film just about her story! And I did not think the film was too long, in actual fact I couldn't believe how time flew!
Did anyone else tut at Julie's pronounciation of Boeuf Bourguignon or was I the only one?
9/10

Re: Julie and Julia
The funniest thing was when he then asked me whether the seat next to me was taken - the OH isn't exactly small and overlookable!

Re: Julie and Julia
Saw this at Edinburgh Ocean tonight. there was some sort of Marie Claire make over thing going on - with no-one at it. I guessed I missed a trick there?!
Glad I went on my own, O/H would have hated it if not for the accent alone!
I thought 30 minutes in it was going to be horrendous but I guess i aclimatised to it or it improved, I'm not sure which! Anyway it was not nearly as bad as I thought having seen clips on TV last week.
I was intrigued as to how they were going to make Meryl Streep 6'2" as, correct, Andrews, she is only 5'6". I spent quite a lot of the film sniggering as to how it was cut off at calf heigh and any shots of her feet she was wearing platform wedges or 5" heels! I'm guessing Stanley Tucci is not very tall (I haven't checked) to help out a bit?!
It def. grew on me and I did enjoy it overall apart from the two girls sitting along from me who ate and ate and ate and talked and talked rather a lot.
i only saw one bloke in the audience! there may have been more.
My brother-in-law saw this with my sister last week and vowed it was the worst film he'd ever seen. he's doing the acting a disservice. meryl was excellent.
As for the film, 6.5/10 from me.
