Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
HOW GOOD WAS THAT FILM!?!
I had high hopes, ticked every box properly.
I honestly didn't expect it to take it's time and develop Caesar as thoroughly, but I am sure glad we got to see his growth to the point where he gets pushed too far, not that I'm spoiling anything with a title like that...
You're all in for a treat, extraordinary, heartfelt, intense, smart, I think it's one of the best of the year. At the end I let out a big sigh, one because it never stopped being brilliant and two because the climactic half hour was rather intense.
10/10

Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Gosh, what a brilliant film. I loved loved LOVED it! Definitely one of the best films I've seen this year.
It is such a beautifully crafted story and the character development is superb. Special effects have come a long way in recent years but it is never more evident here. The facial expressions and character traits shown on the apes is so impressive, they look so lifelike and their interactions with the human characters are flawless. Caesar is a work of art - more emotion is conveyed in one look then most actors can manage with dialogue. I cannot get over how amazing the effects were in this film. Caesar's journey is done in such a way that the audience can empathise with him and therefore his actions never feel cruel or domineering - he is simply fighting back against his tormenters.
The pace and fluidity of the story is spot on with some excellent cinematography and a very good score. There is a real story with a heart here and it unfolds beautifully. There was terrific performances from Franco, Cox, Lithgow and Felton pulled off the American accent better than I expected. The final part of the film is some of the best cinema I've ever seen and I was glued to my seat. I would happily watch it again. 10/10.
The scene during the credits was a bit anti-climatic but didn't damper what is otherwise a marvellous piece of entertainment.
