It's definitely violent by any definition but I feel Evans kept it quite economical. It's not especially gory and it's all about what is being done rather than how much red results.superhero wrote:Like you said, they do cut away from the actual violence before it takes place in most scenes (notably not the beginning and the climatic ending)

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: The Raid
I am surprised how much money they are pumping in to promote this film, I went down the tube escalators and they had advertising down the whole escalator (I suppose it might not be too expensive as it's one of those electronic ones that keep changing).

Re: The Raid
I think it's a great investment. It has already turned a profit from a pretty limited release in the US and I think the UK is more subtitle-friendly anyway. The international market could prove to be quite lucrative for this.superhero wrote:I am surprised how much money they are pumping in to promote this film, I went down the tube escalators and they had advertising down the whole escalator (I suppose it might not be too expensive as it's one of those electronic ones that keep changing).

I wouldn't throw marketing money on tube station ads though for subtitled films (not that it really matters in this case I suppose).

Something's been bugging me, how many floors are there in total in the building?

Re: The Raid
That's what I thought, they really need to fix their tagline and the poster (30 floors), but I suppose 15 doesn't sound that impressive.

Re: The Raid
I hate knives, guns & too much violence in films, but I absolutely love martial arts and particularly hand to hand combat so was rather conflicted in going to see this at the O2 on Tuesday, however there was no need to be concerned. The audience was particularly good and although I oooed and arrhhed and covered my face in several places, I absolutely loved this film. The action was great, the pace good & the music & dialogue was perfect. Having been advised afterwards that a lot of the violence was implied and not actually shown, I'd definitely watch it again & I'll try not to cover my eyes at the gory bits next time.

The combat was good but how many times did that animal character have his head smashed against a concreat floor, one tough guy!

Re: The Raid
Cineworld has allowed me to book this film for the tomorrow preview in advance with my unlimited card which is a first and lucky timing too because I normally work on Tuesday evenings.
I look forward to it but I wont have too high expectations despite the incredible hype its getting. One reason is that I went to see Jason Statham's new film, Safe, last week and I thought that was the best martial arts/gunplay action flick this year so far, given Statham's baddass sardonic charisma and witty sarcastic one liners, I have my doubts that Raid will be better as a whole package, though I wont doubt it will have superior martial arts sequences. That view might change tomorrow, though!
