American pancakes are not fulfilling my pancake needs. Sacrilege on this day of all days!

I always serve mine with real maple syrup -- that might make a difference. But American pancakes, mostly sweet, are thicker and more substantial than the thin crepes made here. It's the only kind I ever make and I used to have family bring over proper maple syrup as you couldn't b*y it here. I once splashed out and b*ght some 'maple syrup' in Fortnum's (I'm talking 30 years ago), brought it home and tasted it -- awful stuff which tasted like vinegar. Got a refund pronto.
Sorry you are disappointed, eumenides.

Re: Pancake Day
Having escaped the need to make pancakes yesterday, I thought I'd got away with it for the whole week, as OH announced that he would be working late every evening. However, I foolishly opened my big mouth to ask "Oh, so we're not celebrating Valentine's Day, then?", whereupon he suggested that I cook us both "something special". Hmm!

Re: Pancake Day
It's Valentines for you both, so why should you have to do the cooking?!? Going out for it would surely please both parties?

Re: Pancake Day
I'm a bit late for the party but I thought I'd share my experience.
I usually make pancakes from scratch since they're so easy and cheap to do, but this week I b*ght Betty Crocker pancake mix because of a deal on topcashback. I wasn't very impressed. I wanted fluffy american pancakes, instead I had to make do with sticky crepes which I covered in nutela/strawberries and peach yogurt/apples.
In the end they tasted very nice but I've been left with a craving for "real" pancakes.

Re: Pancake Day
In fairness to OH, he did suggest going out, but I can't afford it at present and won't accept his offer to p*y, so I suppose I did rather bring that on myself!canadian_turtle wrote:It's Valentines for you both, so why should you have to do the cooking?!? Re: Pancake Day
Ooh I made that mistake with Betty Crocker last year. I was so disappointed, nothing like the real thing! You should totally go out for real pancakes soon, to satisfy your craving :-)PeachyLollipop wrote:I'm a bit late for the party but I thought I'd share my experience.

Re: Pancake Day
Spot on about the maple syrup. I was unceremoniously handed toxic corn syrup as the establishment apparently had nothing else available. Tomorrow I shall be visiting IHOP, Clinton's St Baking Co and Five Leaves to make up for this disgrace!ejwrank wrote:eumenides wrote:American pancakes are not fulfilling my pancake needs.
