That film is many things, but a documentary it sure isn't.

I like Mary Poppins. o/ Just didn't feel SMB had enough sparkle or magic for a disney film, especially as Mary Poppins is so magical to me, and sloshy.

I agree with you Beate, definitely not a documentary. ;)

But
isn't that the whole point? The film is all that but the books aren't, hence why the author was so unhappy about the film.
Aah, I get you! Good comment.
Yes, I see what you are getting at, Disney worked his magic on the books, but unable to work his magic on the back story?? :giggle
:

Heartwarming, heartbreaking, wonderful film. 9/10
Totally agree, yogi!
I was very impressed by Emma Thomson. She was excellent as the troubled Mrs P.L.Travers. Tom Hanks was ok but nothing compared to Emma T. Before watching this film I'd no idea how difficult it had been for P.L. Travers to allow Disney to make the film of Mary Poppins and how she battled to keep some control. The part after the credits was very good as it played some of the actual tape recordings of P.L. Travers discussing what she wanted in the film . . .or rather, what she didn't want! It's amazing how similar Emma Thomson's voice was to the real PLT.
Lovely way to spend a Sunday evening.
Marks 9/10
I thought Emma Thompson sounded like Joyce Grenfell but P L Travers had a lower register, more like the latter day Lady Thatcher.

I thought the real one sounded like one of the Miss Marples.
when she walked into the hotel room with all those freebies and made a face, I thought, if it had been anyone of us, we'd have started packing them in our cases straight away and hoped we'd get more the next day!
