It's the line where George Clooney is consoling Anna Kendrick in the hotel lobby when she's been dumped by text by her boyfriend and I think George says well it's like firing people by sending them an email.
I have read an article that the Anna Kendrick character, Jason Reitman based alot of her on his wife and hence I don't know if it differs much from the book (I haven't read the book yet).
I think for the people disappointed with the film or the ending, reading reviews or watching the ads and trailers, I can see you might go in expecting the film to be a comedy like when I went in to watch Juno, in which case you will probably be disappointed. I haven't seen any of the ads in London yet, but hopefully they are not pushing this film just as a comedy, as it's more complex than that.

Saw this at Fulham Broadway, and was a bit disappointed with the film as I was expecting it to be funnier, and more concentrated on the air miles obsession. It did have some funny moments but the rest of the film was so-so and quite predictable in places. 7/10

Pity some teenage louts made noise from the back and used their mobile phone throughout the film, and shame on those others who kept pulling out their mobiles, causing distracting bright lights all over the cinema. Lucky Gizmo wasn't with me!

"It is like firing people over the internet". LOL
It IS a very funny film but it's not a comedy like "It's Complicated" where people spy into houses from flowerbeds and other slapstick. It's intelligent humour.

I totally agree. The humour comes from well observed human behaviour, rather than forced slapstick.

Great to see Beate and have a catch up. I've missed everyone.

I have to say that I did enjoy this film, however I did find it slow. I think that some of you are right, initially my view of the film was clouded by the reviews etc. that I'd read which seemed to indicate that this was a romcom. I watched this film all the way through expecting the pace to pick up. I think that the ending was very apt - albeit sad.

That said, the film led to an interesting discussion between my companion and I about, relationships, expectations and openness. So on reflection it gets 7.5/10 from me.

Up in the Air / fulham broadway

#86 Post by midian » Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:34 am

saw this last night at fulham broadway as was visiting a friend nearby that day. usually i don't stray so far from home as it is the other side of town from me. but the cinema was very easily accessed from the tube as the staion exits straight into the mall and there is no need to go outside at all. not five mins from station exit to cinema. great! i think i will add it to the list of cinemas i will travel to if need be.

i enjoyed this film. there were some very witty lines. a good but not great film.

I saw this last night in Wimbledon. After reading the mixed reviews I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised.I thought it was witty and funny. I was rooting for George in the end and was quite sad at the ending as wasn't expecting that. Nice to see a film that makes you think. Overall 7/10

I noticed I wrote after the watching the film, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I am surprised esp with some comments on MSE saying how unfunny the film is. I think its meant to be more of a reflective thinking film..Anyway I still think it will definitely get a few oscar noms at the very least.

have now seen the film.
I thought it was good, especially if you like George Clooney.
However I found some of the characters not totally believable in light of how they were initially portrayed and how they eventually turned out.
would recommend this to a friend.
Would be interested to see how others view this film.

I just watched this film, wasn't sure whether it would be worth staying all the way through but glad I did. The first half was full of predictable jokes held together by a fairly unadventurous plot. Later you get to know the characters and get sucked into the romantic side of things. More than one laugh out loud moment, so generally thumbs up. Thanks for the code FMUK!
