My neighbour just went on a cruise to Alaska and said it was amazing.

Also for smaller cities / towns, I'd recomment Basel in Switzerland (don't know if it's feasible by train?) but they do Christmas markets and while I may be biased (I grew up there) it's a beautiful place with lots to do and see. Plus Switzerland (like most places in Europe) is even more amazing at Christmas than usual. (Otherwise go in Spring during Fastnacht, a 3-day festival, or be there for Switzerland's birthday on 1 August). We spent Christmas in Adelboden once when I was a kid and it's just AMAZING. Else try Interlaken, Grindelwald, Luzern (Lucerne)... oh god I think I need to go back...

Also, as for skiing at Christmas, bear in mind it's a different kind of cold so actually it really is much nicer than you'd think. And often it's sunny so it's a lovely crisp feel. Nothing like a hot chocolate after a morning on the slopes. Plus you sort of get a tan... :shifty:

Wrong thread I know but they did well last night in the footie beating Roma 2-0. My boss is going out for their game against Fulham so I will tell him you recommend it!

Hi everyone.

I've got 2 weeks holiday to take at the start of October! We'll go away in the caravan but have no idea where :confused: - any thoughts? We're thinking most likely within the UK but open to ideas (if we got a cheap ferry deal!) Any suggestions welcome, thanks! o/

Not sure about camping for 2 weeks in October, We are dusting of the VW campervan for a 3 day camping trip first weekend in Oct to Pooley Bridge, been there twice this year and its so peaceful and relaxing there and some fabulous walks and scenery.

I will be going to Seattle in 2 weeks time, even though it's for work i'm sooo looking forward to it. I've never been outside of Europe (only got my passport a few months ago) and looking forward to see some more of the world.

So first Seattle and in November i'll be going to South Africa to visit my girlfriends family over there!

great travel plans i must say myself!

anybody been to seattle and can recommend something?

just come back from two weeks in croatia absolutely great.Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.Lovely people very friendly.Not quite as cheap as i would have imagined.September good time to go not too hot but in the 70 s.

And if you like art (and especially glass) - Dale Chihuly, who has shops, installations and at the Art Gallery. He is better known for his ceilings and chandeliers in the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, but had an exhibition in Kew Gardens a year or so ago, and at the V&A several years ago. He's not eveyone's cup of tea, but .... I'd love to see this one, at a hotel in the mountaisn about 70 miles from Seattle... Image

Croatia is very popular now and everyone who comes back from a holiday there raves about it and recommends it, unlike some destinations, of which they say "don't go there"! It is also, apparently, still surprisingly hot at present. I would love to go there but think it will have to wait for next year.
