http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... bCXsaDvmSA it was from Moondance that led me onto here, they all look fabulous so thank you so much - this was the best one I could find with a triple room and breakfast (this is to save time). If you have any tips for me that would be brilliant - I know that I have to get the bus 100 to get around (thanks Beate) and to visit Potsdam.
I also recommend visiting the dome of the Reichstag. It's free, but you need to book in advance. I think there are also some free guided tours of the Reichstag. If you need help with the bookings, let me know (I'm fluent in German) or maybe ask Beate to help you. Otherwise, there are also some free guided walking tours of Berlin. Potsdam is very nice too. It takes about an hour to get there.
As I'm going next Friday just making sure that I get the most out of this trip - thanks so much to pcrock, Beate and thedude for your tips and so far I have planned as per your suggestions:
http://www.newberlintours.com/daily-tou ... -tour.html (I will book on this)
A trip to Pottsdam
A trip to
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 2PTGb2JKnA
Plus a visit to the East Side gallery
I arrive in Berlin Airport at 10am so I should be at the hotel by noon so thinking of the tour on the Friday, Pottsdam on the Saturday and Charlottenburg on the Sunday morning as I need to be at the airport by 15.30
Is there anything major that I am missing as I would hate to go there and not see some very special place? Plus any tips re eating places etc - I want to eat like the Berliners do.

Wow thank you so much ladies for your fabulously quick responses - 7 responses in the time it took me to have a bath and I too am now feeling very hungry. I will definitely be having bienenstich and a currywurst - if I do (I know I will) lots of walking I'm sure that I can burn off the calories and a visit to Ku'damm will have to be fitted in. I really do appreciate all your help as I always feel its a shame when you are there not to get as much out of the experience as possible plus I love the planning part too

If you are interested in food the top floor of the department store KaDeWe is AMAZING - see this link on tripadvisor
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_R ... ml#REVIEWS
The rest of the store is nothing special but the food hall is worth a visit.
Preferred cinemas:
Central London and North London as far north as the Hampstead Everyman including Picturehouse Hackney/Notting Hill Gate - but not Wood Green and North Finchley as they are just a bit too far.
