Re: Coriolanus
Beate sounds like she's having a whale of a time.
It's so good she decided to skip the Q&A!

Re: Coriolanus
Yeah, I texted her about 6 times, LOL. Premieres are so overrated. We got our tickets easy enough and they were in the back which was great. We were quite early and just as we were leaving the Ben & Jerry's area because it was so hot there, Ralph Fiennes and Vanessa Redgrave turned up outside on the red carpet. I moved forward to get a picture but just when I was about to take my shot, some stupid bloody press person stood in the middle of the door where he was not supposed to stand and blocked my view completely. I never got a picture. Jackass.
So we gave up waiting and moved to our seats where we found water bottles and lovely Green & Black's chocolate. It was eaten immediately I am afraid. It remained the highlight of the evening. Ralph and the others then came on stage at around 7.45pm and he said a few words, then we got the film. Not too much delay there thank God.
Why I thought I would like this is a mystery. I saw Coriolanus, also with Ralph Fiennes, in the theatre, and I snored through it then, but I heard that this one was a modern version so I thought it's worth checking out. And yes, it was set in the modern day, but they still spoke Shakespearean lines. Why do that? Gerard Butler looked like directly imported from the Machine Gun Preacher, Jessica Chastain got quite a thankless role, and the war scenes were pretty loud and gruesome. Jon Snow as a news anchorman got the only laugh. And do the Fiennes brothers have to uglify themselves for every role these days to prove they are serious actors? Come on boys, you can be handsome if you want to! Ralph turned up with a terrible beard to the premiere though - God knows what he is shooting right now.
They announced a Q&A to happen after the film but I was having none of it and we scarpered as soon as the credits came on after what seemed like a lifetime.

He's got a beard because he's in The Tempest at the Haymarket perhaps?

Re: Coriolanus
Saw the film a few weeks ago, and in complete agreement with you Beate. Jon Snow is the best thing about it.

Wow. That's unexpected endorsement.

Re: Coriolanus
I've been ill the past day and a half, so I missed out on a 3D film this morning and seeing Fiennes in real life, but I'm excited for this week. The Artist, two Clooneys (With chances to see him in human form!) and hopefully some sleep in between.
