It Follows
Went to the BFI screening and Q&A last night.
The director and two of the stars, Danny Zovatto and Maika Monroe came to introduce the film and then later Danny Leigh came to do the Q&A with them.
The film itself about sex and death, was not that scary, in the sense there was "no bump in the night" kind of scary, except one scene, which made everyone jump. The score was more scary. Much more creepy in the sense that it works on a psychological level. Following a sexual encounter, the girl (Maika Monroe) finds that she is being followed by a death seeking "It" that will only leave her alone if she sleeps with someone else, and passes on the "it". A nightmare she has to keep one step ahead to survive.
We were told not to film the Q&A. And afterwards, the actors snubbed a few autograph hunters outside, twice, so was not impressed with this behaviour, when they are not even that famous, or are they? Never heard of them!

Re: It Follows
Saw this at the London Film Festival back in October. An impressive, smart and deeply unnerving horror film with a strong retro feel and a fantastic career-making performance from Maika Monroe. A film that manages the rare feat of being in small ways reminiscent of many previous horror films (Japanese horror, the 80s work of John Carpenter and David Cronenberg etc) but still has a fresh and distinctive voice of its own. It's also the kind of film it's best to know as little as possible about before going in. Not least because the barest description (um...STD horror) will just make it sound worse than it actually is. Perhaps not the masterpiece some are claiming it to be but a very strong film nonetheless.

Re: It Follows
Saw this last night at the PCC. Had been looking forward to this for a long time as had missed the LFF screening last year.
I thought it was excellent. Very eery atmosphere throughout, shot well and the soundtrack was very fitting for the film. Very original, there was a constant sense of dread throughout which only continued to build. Many thanks to valda for the tickets.
8/10
Maika Monroe is a real future star, was impressed with her role in 'The Guest' which was one of my favourite films from last year.

Re: It Follows
I saw this reviewed on Film 2015. It seems from what they said to be quite scary. The trailer doesn't look that scary to me, so we'll see what the film's like.

Depending on what you find scary. Personally, I didn't find it at all scary and didn't particularly like the film either.Agent-S wrote:I saw this reviewed on Film 2015. It seems from what they said to be quite scary. The trailer doesn't look that scary to me, so we'll see what the film's like.

Re: It Follows
I thought that this was definitely quite different from the norm and apart from having a few similarities to 'The Ring' it felt pretty original overall.
Visually it's very well made, has some genuinely shocking moments and the central performance from Maika Monroe is very decent indeed.
Admittedly there are some pacing issues but as it ends on a relatively strong note I think this film did just enough to get an 8/10 from me...

Re: It Follows
The film wasn't scary at all in parts it seemed okay to watch but didn't stand out to me to be a gripping horror film i do rate that this wasn't a typical horror film and give this a 6/10

Re: It Follows
This was a very cool, creepy retro style film. Very well made with building tension, it kept my attention throughout. 8/10.
