Chappie
It's not exactly a secret that I absolutely loved 'District 9' and although 'Elysium' was far from perfect, I still felt that it represented a very decent sci-fi flavoured viewing experience.
'Chappie' certainly has a 'District 9' vibe both visually & narratively speaking but at times it suffers from the same unevenness that plagued 'Elysium'.
However the story is never less than interesting, performances are pretty decent in general & the ending is relatively satisfying.
Overall it did enough to get an 8/10 from me and I'm certainly interested to see, in a few years time, what Neill Blomkamp does with the 'Alien' franchise as he's clearly very comfortable working in that genre...

Re: Chappie
peculiar feel to this movie, but I liked it, smelled faintly of Luc Besson. Theres a conscious effort from the director also to paint a fresh picture of South Africa in movies, which I appreciated.
I'm not sure it merits an IMAX release though, there are very few shots in the movie that demand the hugest screen.
yeah and why has chappie got an indian accent anyway.

Re: Chappie
Saw this at empire leic sq imax screen and was very disappointed.
As an old school fan of 2000ad comics, the original robocop, the short circuit movies this film just cannibalised this and ripped of a few Japanese animes/toys also.
The crew with their baby pastel guns and rigur was puke worthy.
Only near the end did "daddy" became of any worth.
And the bad guy wolverine in his ed209/metal gear was the only thing I liked.
Like the kingsman this is a film for primary school kids.
Am scared for future films from neil
