Away We Go
Re: Away We Go
Great soundtrack, it looked nice, it was funny in places..... but.... it just didn't do much for me. The main characters were fine, but most of the chapters (is it right to say that?) involved ludicrous characters which deviated away from normality a wee bit too much - although I guess that was part of the point, I feel that it didn't work.
A slightly generous 5/10 from me.

Re: Away We Go
I really liked this film. Same premise as Revolutionary Road (a couple on a quest to find a new life), very different results. AWG was very funny, and to say it was charming would be a massive understatement. The leads were great, they didn't really change much, but as Roger Ebert said "If their characters find they are superior to many people, well, maybe they are."
8/10
Later on in the film two people had a loud conversation that never seemed to end.

Yeah, someone's phone rang right at the start of the film....and she answered it! Becoming Jack Dee she said "Hello? Yeah, I'm in the cinema..."a_person wrote:I really wish people could be abit more considerate when they do this.... just because it's a free preview doesn't give people the right to start talking. The point is to enjoy the film! Not listen to someone talk on the phone!Maybeelady wrote:People coming in throughout the film and a bloody annoying guy next to us taking calls throughout the film!!!.

Nah, not to me. I see what you are hinting at but them specifically being where they were when they were there? Nope. I'm a places kind of girl and to be really really honest I was looking forward to seeing the cities they went to, not their kooky friends.
Glad you enjoyed it though.
I really enjoyed Revolutionary Road.

Re: Away We Go
Just saw this film at a preview and quite liked it. It definitely had many funny bits where I laughed out loud and the story was solid but I thought at some points it dragged a bit. Perhaps I just wasn't in the right mood. My friend loved it though. I would probably give it a 6.5/10
Re: Away We Go
Excellent film.
Sweet, funny, and poignant.
Very un-Sam Mendes like after his last few worthy Oscar baiting efforts. Although it did balance the funny and dramatic in a similar successful way to American Beauty.

Re: Away We Go
I saw this last night and really enjoyed it! Which was a nice surprise as I wasn't sure I would and that it would be a bit too emotional-chick-flick-y for me (not that I'm against the chick-flicks in general, I've sat through my fair share).
I thought the story was interesting but the balance between comedy and drama was a bit odd. Watching it I felt that there'd be two-parts comedy and then two-parts drama, so you kind of swung between them a lot. And that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it just felt different to your normal comedy-dramas (like you forgot it was and at times thought it was just a comedy or just a drama).
Acting was great, possibly one of the best opening scenes even if it was just for originality (wasn't expecting that!) and generally came away feeling very happy I didn't pass up on it. I didn't think the characters came off as "superior" at all, they were just observing some odd behaviour and seemed pretty grounded to me (or does that mean I consider myself "superior" as well? ^_^)
All in all, definitely worth a look, get yourself to the cinema to see it.

Re: Away We Go
all above was true....what Andrews forgot to mention was that with the stampede of people trying to get better seats in screen 9. Us on the other hand were there very early to get the seats we prefer (am a bit OCD about where I sit! lol )andrews wrote: A.Jobsworth had us all standing outside Screen 8 for 20 minutes before letting us in. We were just nicely settled when aforementioned Jobsworth came in and announced - most authoritatively - that there had been a mistake, and the screening was to take place in Screen 9 - cue mass exodus/orderly stampede.
Andrews, Spanner and friend got in before us and Andrews bless her cotton socks had sat in the seats she knew I preferred and kept the seat for me.
This film was nice and sweet but not as sweet as that simple thoughtful gesture that Andrews made for me! If I were part of that film my journey would of been to find kind hearted, thoughtful friends who are willing to go out of their way for a virtual stranger that they have met on a film website!
Thank you Andrews & Spanner for being truly nice people xx
Re: Away We Go
I also saw this film last night in Manchester at the Printworks. I loved every minute. It was such a sweet thoughtful film, really easy to watch and was surprisingly very very funny.
A must see for all.
