If you are seeing this with the Times I suggest b*ying today's (saturday's) paper as its cheaper.

To claim four free tickets for the preview screening on Sunday, September 20, you will need an original copy of the Saturday Times offers page or the advert in Culture Magazine from Sunday 13th.

We had turned up very early, and the cinema staff took pity on us and let us in but left us sitting in the entrance hall. We only discovered that they had locked the door behind us again when more people came and started banging on the doors, LOL. At least it ensured us the best seats! It wasn't a full house by any means though, the turnout was quite poor actually.

This film shows us how every year flamingos from all over return to the Natron Lake in Tanzania to mate and rear chicks. The landscape is stunning and the story very interesting, with the added cutesy factor of the flamingo chicks. I had never seen flamingos land or take off just like planes before, using their legs to slow down or speed up, or do a mating choreography worthy of any ballet dancer. It is however not quite as thrilling or funny as the March of the Penguins was, and the narration is sometimes over the top poetic, with music swelling and another gorgeous landscape shot thrown in for good measure.

7.5/10

Btw, if you are b*ying the Sunday Times today for next week's screening - it has got The Shawshank Redemption DVD in it, no voucher send off, it's in with the Sunday Times Magazine!

26 people at my screening, what a disgrace, and 8 of them were fmukkers or friends/family of fmukkers! Anyway wasn't too impressed by this, yes yes it's beautifully shot but I found it a little too highbrow for kids and a little too boring for adults. There wasn't much of a story-line and I felt it would've been better if they'd made one up or at least give a bit more background info, like where they fly too/from, how the chicks are weaned, and more about their 40 yr life cycle. hmmm I've deffo seen better on the beeb. may only be a short-ish film but it felt a lot longer. 4.5/10 from me.

There was hardly anyone at my screening. Considering how fast the tickets go, people are obviously wasting them. The footage was very good and it was interesting. However, I also felt it was rather long and they could have done with more of a story. I think it would have been better as a TV documentary than a film.

A beautifully crafted film, in which the cinematography was superb.

At 77 minutes, it was slightly too long for my liking. Mariella Frostrup has a pleasant voice but I felt that there was little inflection and that she was sending me to sleep. Sadly, I have to say that I found the film, especially the musical score, repetitive and boring at times.
I've seen better. David Attenborough would have brought this story to life, without a doubt. We've been spoiled by his nature documentaries, and have high expectations in this genre.

5/10 for the stunning camera work.
