Picture the scene: it’s a balmy evening and you’ve raided the cupboard for last season's shorts and flip flops. England’s undergone a change of heart and decided to be sunny this summer. You’re keen for a bit of culture. A film – perfect! But no, don’t waste such precious sunshine. Jump on the roaming camel and join The Nomad for a spot of cinematic serenity.
Today’s Selected offer is London’s answer to al fresco flicks. Follow The Nomad as it charges its way in a fanciful flourish through some of London’ hottest venues. Kick back in Kensington Gardens, ham it up in Hampton Court Palace, wallow in Walmer Castle or take pleasure in Priory Park. And these are just a handful of the multifarious locations lined up for your viewing entertainment.
Wait though; this isn’t your run-of-the-mill popcorn-pigging, pick-‘n’-mix-munching movie experience. Poise yourself for added entertainment with elements of theatre, music, costumes and performance that provide the extra dimension to an already innovative cinematic experience. Keep your eyes peeled and ears pricked because you never know which ‘audience member’ might pop out from the picnic behind you to help set the scene.
With an array of 11 exhilarating venues from which to choose, and everything from classic film noir in Bushy Park to big-time blockbusters in Benenden Hospital Trust, you’ll find as many of your favourite flicks as you can reel off in one go. Whether it’s a cower-behind-a-cushion horror, a feel-good girls’ film or a testosterone-fuelled thriller you fancy, Bob really is your uncle.
The brains behind this baby are none other than founder of Kensal Rise’s unique Lexi Cinema – the UK’s first social enterprise boutique cinema – and creator of The Screen on the Green – the country’s leading supplier of mobile outdoor cinema. Developing their interest in open-air cinema, the talented pair decided to bring the big screen to life in London, transforming pop-up screenings to exciting events.
Don’t settle for sitting-room movie nights. After all, there’s nothing quite like immersing yourself in the action of the great outdoors.
