Have you checked with your local adult education centre? I know its obvious but last year there was a small amount set aside to offer free classes across the country. I know they are probably taken very quickly but it may be worth checking to see if anything similar is running this year i.e. from the new academic year in September.

Also there are BSL Lessons online and free from Sign Station who are also the same company making the signs downloadable to mobile, I believe deafstation is doing something similar.

Whilst ideally you should already be knowledgabl in BSL, Sign Station does teach you individual signs as well as grammatical structure and the differences between BSL and english in text.

Having used this as a demonstration at work, I have to say it's a good website.

P.S. Forgot to say get in touch with your local Deaf club as they may be able to help. They will probably have members who would be willing to sit with you and practice

P.P.S. Also bear in mind that there are two different ideals within this disability group a quick overview is - those who are part of the Deaf Community (always spelt with a capital D) - they are proud to be Deaf and do not want to be swallowed up within a general disability group - they want to be recognised idependently; and those who prefer to be described as hearing impaired.

http://pureshpower.blogspot.com/2009/10 ... iring.html - will give you some facts and myths about hearing impairment in general.

 Thanks guys. Syd, if you have been thinking about it for a while, then get on it girl :) Maybe do what I did and go to a taster course at a local library. You'll learn to spell anything very quickly.

Destresserai, wow, awesome link. Best online course I have seen so far, well constructed, I will definitely be going through this, and its free too, brilliant. And thanks for the other info, most informative o/
