Wildly off-original-topic now, but what does seem a shame to me is that so many lovely venues are now available but what if you don't want to get married? It would be nice to do something else but all I can think of is a party and I'd run a mile from one of those, so I certainly wouldn't organise my own..

Do you mean what else instead of a party? We had another 'do' for family abroad that couldn't come which was a Champagne and High Tea. Was sort of formal but still relaxed, lots of cake and chanpagne and nice and civilised for the older family :) Never got to have any cake though, too busy meeting my new family! Oh well....

Cake? Now you're talking! I am an absolute cake fiend and could have chosen that as my user name had I not already thought of one. A tea dance, perhaps... but I would sit out and scoff!

Perhaps it's a good distraction - others dance, you get more cake! Genius.

PS we had a BBQ t'other day and a guest (LOVE HER) brought a massive chocolate cake and a massive cheesescake, home made. guess what I'm doing when i get home :D :D :D

There now, and I was quite happy with my single portion of chocolate cake until I read that!

I have developed a strange fascination for Come Dine With Me although it makes me hungry even if I have just eaten! And I adore cheesecake! Reminds me of that episode where Helen Lederer wanted to make poppyseed cheesecake but forgot to put the poppyseeds in so instead she just liberally sprinkled them on top of the finished product! :giggle:

Just watched celebrity come dine with me. Yeah I'm a bit hooked. can't watch it mid way, I just get glued.

Is it sad to attempt a friendly personal come dine with me with friends?

Not sad at all but I would hope that a dinner among friends would be devoid of all the bitching, nosing around in cupboards and giving marks! That's alright for TV and makes for good viewing but I would be horrified if anyone would snub my starter of parma ham and melon, say, just because I didn't "cook" it myself from scratch!
