FOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!

#1 Post by anakin » Mon Sep 21, 2009 10:31 am

Given that we've had a lot of food talk (and even an amazing Cheesecake recipe from Destresserai), I thought it makes sense for FOOD to have it's own post! A place to talk about the amazing delights and, as already done, share the odd fool proof receipe! :j

In the words of Julia Child... Bon Apetit!
destresserai wrote:My favourite cheesecake recipe - really easy to make!

Ingredients
• 200g/8oz Ginger Biscuits
• 100g/4oz Unsalted Butter
• 400g/14oz Full-Fat Soft Cheese
• 50g/2oz Icing Sugar
• Juice 1/2 Lemon
• 1 tsp Ground Ginger
• 100g/4oz Greek Yoghurt
• 50g/2oz Crystallised Ginger, chopped
• roasted rhubarb or other seasonal fruit compote (faily tart) for the topping
• Double Cream to serve - (optional extravagence)

Blitz the biscuits in a food processor (or crush in a sealed bag) until you get fine crumbs. Gently melt the butter, then mix with the crumbs in a bowl. Press the mixture evenly into the base of a 20cm loose-bottomed round cake tin (no larger!). Chill in the fridge while making the filling.

Put all remaining ingredients into a food processor and blend until smooth. Spread over the base, smoothing with a palette knife, but leave a shallow depression to contain the topping. Leave overnight in the fridge to set (or longer, which intensifies the ginger flavours).

Remove from the tin and top with your chosen fruit, slice and serve with double cream.

Hardly haute cuisine but, at my voluntary job this PM, I was offered a tub of milk chocolate digestives because the lid was broken. I don't like them but took them home for OH, as I knew he would pounce on them with glee. Just pulled up outside the house to find OH at the door, taking delivery of a large carton of Celebrations chocs (I don't like those either), from the nearby church congregation, to apologise for any disturbance (none) during recent building work. OH has therefore settled down happily with his spoils. Now, had they been handing out Maltesers...!

Now if they had been plain chocolate digestives, I would have happily fought him for them. Am desperate for choc and can't find any in the house....... My son came in from school and finished my bar of Green & Blacks! Not a happy mum.

We polished off a box of miniatures when friends were over - too greedy! Gosh, it really is beautiful chocolate.

I wholeheartedly agree that we should have a food thread!

Here is a link for a recipe for chicken breton which i found on the web after trying it in cafe rouge many moons ago (on a 2for1 obviously!)

I usually serve it with horseradish or mustard mash, rather than minted potatoes and 6 garlic cloves!

Oh that looks yum crispoke! Might have to give that one a go. And cheesecake for pudding!

I was given a late wedding present yesterday which included some chocolates... but it was dark chocolate! Not a fan myself, nor is Mr Anakin... wonder who the lucky guests will be ;)

Milk chocolate digestives on the other hand...!
